MATERIALS

• 70cm ( 3/4yd) mottled dark aqua fabric (sashings, binding, border corners, Suffolk puffs and appliqué)
• 50cm ( 5/8yd) mottled light aqua fabric (Dresden Fan background and appliqué)
• 50cm ( 5/8yd) aqua floral print fabric (border)
• 30cm ( 3/8yd) green print fabric (Row 2 background)
• 50cm ( 5/8yd) dark pink print fabric (Sawtooth Stars, Drunkard’s Path and appliqué)
• 30cm ( 3/8yd) mottled green fabric (Row 5 background)
• 30cm ( 3/8yd) pale pink print fabric (Row 4 background)
• Assortment of fat quarters and fat eighths of print fabrics in pink, cream, aqua, brown and green (appliqué and patchwork blocks) – the instructions will refer to the fabric colours that Val used
• 2.5m (3yd) backing fabric
• Batting at least 155 x 135cm (70 x 50in)
• DMC Perle No 5 in Very Dark Dusty Rose (3731)
• Anchor Stranded Embroidery Cotton in Very Light Avocado Green (265), Ultra Dark Beige Grey (898), Dark Medium Salmon (1024) and Very Light Aquamarine (1070)
• Mettler Seralene polyester thread in cream (machine quilting)
• Cotton machine quilting threads in cream, green, aqua and pink
• Threads to match the appliqué fabrics
• Size 8 crewel needle and size 20 chenille needle
• 13mm ( 5/8in) antique gold heart charm (gate handle) and two 20mm ( 3/4in) antique gold key charms (gate hinges)
• 25cm ( 3/8yd) light aqua ribbon, 6mm ( 1/4in) wide (hat embellishment)
• Pencil and erasable fabric-marking pen
• Fabric glue stick or glue pen

• Template plastic and fine-point permanent-marking pen
• Washaway appliqué paper
• Spray starch
• 20mm ( 3/4in) and 30mm (1 1/4in) Clover yoyo makers (optional)
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with 1/4in and walking feet
• General sewing supplies

Finished size: 138.5 x 117cm (54 1/2 x 46in)

Stitches used: Backstitch, chain stitch, satin stitch, stem stitch

Note: Read all the instructions before starting the project. It is recommended that fabrics be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabric 108cm (42 1/2in) wide. Val stitched her appliqué by hand after preparing the shapes using appliqué paper: it is left behind the shapes as they are
