MATERIALS

• DMC Natura Just Cotton 4 ply yarn: one ball each of Acanthe, Amaranto, Aswan, Chartreuse, Dark Grey, Glacier, Green Valley, Ivory, Ombre, Passion, Rose Layette, Safran, Sienna, Star Light, Tournesol and Tropic Brown – see Note

• 2.75mm (UK 11/US C) crochet hook such as Clover yellow

• Four pairs of 6mm ( 1/4in) black safety eyes – see Reneé’s Safety Tip

• Black and light pink embroidery cotton (face details)

• Sturdy cardboard or template plastic (soles)

• Wire and wire cutters (optional)

• Electrical tape (optional)

• Fibre fill and stuffing tool

• Tapestry needle

• Stitch marker

Stitches used:

Satin stitch, straight stitch

Finished sizes:

Dolls 22cm (8 1/2in); teddies 6.5cm (2 1/2in) approx.

Note: Read all the instructions and tips before starting the project. This is an advanced skill-level crochet project. Australian/UK crochet terms are used; North American readers should consult a crochet manual to ensure they interpret the instructions correctly. Refer to the colour tables for the yarns to use for each component of the dolls and bears. Small quantities are used of several of the colours so you can use part balls from your stash if you wish. The finished sizes will vary according to the yarn used, hook size and tension of your work.

ABBREVIATIONS

BLO = back loops only; ch = chain; dc = double crochet; dc2tog = work two dc sts together; FLO = front loops only; invdec = invisible decrease; popcorn st = make 3 tr, keeping the last loop of each st on the hook, then sl st into all four loops on the hook and continue with the following dc sts; sl st = slip stitch; st/s = stitch/es; tr = treble

DAPHNE

Cheeks

Make two in the cheek colour.

Round 1 – Ch 2, 4 dc in second ch from hook.

Row 2 – 2 dc in each st ... 8 sts. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Set aside for now.

Dress Frill

Make one in the dress colour.

Round 1 – Ch 30, connect ch with a dc to create a ring.

Round 2 – Dc 30.
