Texas Bathroom Bill Stymied Again As Legislature Ends Special Session
Powerful business interests and some Republicans joined Democrats and LGBT activists in opposing an effort to pass a law restricting bathroom access for transgender people.
A special legislative session in Texas drew to a close late Tuesday without passing a bill to limit transgender people's access to bathrooms. The now-dead bill had the support of the state's governor and Senate, but it was opposed by powerful business interests and the Republican House speaker.
The proposal was for a law similar to the one North Carolina passed and later partially that trans people face when using a bathroom that doesn't match their identity.
