Her two hard working Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs are in charge of the cows, goats, chickens and guineas. The ranch house is super insulated and passive solar. It was designed by Barb and her husband. It has no active heating or cooling. It stays comfy year-round. The couple and their two kids built the house with their own hands, no subcontractors. From living camped out in a teepee, and Whelan style lean-tos, to heated A-frame tents at 26 below zero (it takes a cord of firewood a week) to Alaskan homestead cabins with no indoor plumbing and off grid solar electricity to a ranch at the end of the road, Barb has lived most of the things she writes about in her books. She has been a rancher, cowhand, horse trainer, prospector, construction laborer, trapper, tree planter in the western U.S. She was also a boat builder and deckhand on their Alaskan fishing boats. Barb has lived at various remote locations around the West. She has worked a bunch of cattle roundups in Idaho and Arizona. The largest, 2000 head. A one day round trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back afoot, and many mountain ski touring, snowshoe and hiking backpack weeks pepper her history. Surfing and snorkeling were her hobbies in Hawaii. A wilderness adventurer in many climes, she raises goats, makes her own cheese & rides the world's greatest horses. One of whom, Squishy, made the cover of “On the Rocks”. Her daughter, Fox, took the cover photo for “On the Rocks”, the first book in the Spirit Animal series. Fox lopes own her horse, Goofy, across the cover of ‘Cowgirls Just Wanna Have Fun’.visualizza meno
