ATMOSPHERIC HUMUDITY.
The

presence of water either as liquid or as vapor present in the atmosphere is called the atmospheric humidity. Atmosphere draws water as vapor from the surface of the earth & returns it in the form of water or snow this process is called the hydrologic cycle.

Processing of water.
Evaporation

is the process in which liquid water is converted into watervapour. Snow & ice get directly converted into the vaporous state-sub milation. A considerable proportion of watervapour is released into the atmosphere by plants through a process called transpiration. All the warm blooded animals including human beings release watervapour through exhalation.

Types of humidity.
The

ratio of the mass of watervapour present in a unit mass of air is called specific humidity The weight of watervapour present in a unit volume of air is called absolute humidity. The ratio of watervapour present in the air at the given temperature is called relative humidity. It is measured by an instrument called hydrometer.

SATURATION
When

air contains the maximum amount of watervapour at a given temperature & pressure it is stated to have become saturated. The temperature at which the air becomes saturated is called its saturation point or dew point or frost point.

CONDENSATION
If

the temperature of the saturated air falls below the dew point losses its capacity to hold watervapour any longer. Tiny particles of salt, dust or smoke act as condensation nuclei, this change of state of watervapour into water or air or ice or snow, is called condensation.

PRECIPITATION.
Precipitation

is a natural process involving the deposition of atmospheric moisture on the earth surface in various forms such as rain, snow, sleet,& hail Depending upon mode of occurrence of rainfall is classified into three typesA)The convectional rainfall. B)The orographic rainfall. C)The cyclonic rainfall.

CONVECTIONALRAINFALL
In

the tropical region where temperatures are always high the earth surface due to insulation becomes hot. The overlaying layers of air are also heated up through conduction & the hot air expands and become lighter, resulting to heavy rainfall.

OROGRAPHIC RAINFALL.
Due

to the differential heating cooling of the land masses and water bodies also due to the prevailing planetary winds, airflows from the oceans sea's on to the land surface. The wind de-sends and, hence there would be no rainfall, such regions are called rain shadow regions.

CYCLONICRAINFALL
This

type of rainfall is associated with the passage of the cyclone or a depression. There are two types of cyclones,
Temperate cyclone. Tropical cyclone.

DISTRIBUTION OF RAINFALL.
The

distribution of rainfall in the world is influenced by many factors such as

Temperature Humidity. Atmospheric pressure. Prevailing wind systems.
