TEMS Investigation used for 3G : Tool Settings &Requirements:
UE, Scanner(GPS,RF Antenna). UE connection is normal but for Scanner we have to lock on 3G Frequency (10612,10587). (DU=10662),Etisalat

UE Setting & Purpose:

The Scanner measures all SCs, whereas the UE only measures SC signals from the cells that the system has informed/ordered the UE through the BCH (neighbour list) or via the measurement control message. RSCP Active/Monitored Set Carrier RSSI Ec/No Active/Monitored Set UL/DL Data Throughput The BLER downlink Pilot BER Random Access Initial Tx Power Random Access Preamble Count Random Access Preamble Step Random Access Tx Power SIR target (UE dependent) UE Tx Power Call Statistic: AMR, CS and PS data calls

Scanner Purpose and Setting:
The purpose of using the RF scanner is to be able to scan and measure all used carriers/cells and their corresponding DL scrambling codes.
For low coverage areas For antenna installation problems For missing neighbours For coverage optimisation With the scanner you can get the following info from the surrounding cells:
Different Scrambling codes CPCIH RSCP value (dBm) CPICH EcNo value (dB)

Huawei Data card required like edge stick in 2G for HSPA (high speed packet access) testing. HSPA Testing(HSDPA/HSUPA testing) HSDPA=High speed downlink packet access. HSUPA=High speed uplink packet access.

Max PDSCH codes=15 But depends on RF condition and no of codes available. In this case Max no of codes assigned to one user=10

CQI=channel quality index(depends upon EcIo

Modulation Scheme used during HSDPA testing.

MAX Throughput on downlink Shows HSDPA is active on Cell

Data Testing Settings and function(HSPA testing)
HSDPA 1.8 Mbps The maximum transport block size for 5 codes, QPSK is 3440 bits. The maximum physical layer throughput (ignoring re-transmissions and assuming scheduling in all TTI) would be 3440/0.002 = 1.72 Mbps This can accommodate 10 MAC-d PDU of size 336 bits (payload of 320 bits). Thus maximum RLC layer throughput is 320*10/0.002 = 1.6 Mbps. Assuming a 10% MAC-hs re-transmission rate, this reduces to 1.6*0.9 = 1.44 Mbps HSDPA 3.6 Mbps The maximum transport block size for 5 codes, 16QAM is 7168 bits. The maximum physical layer throughput (ignoring re-transmissions and assuming scheduling in all TTI) would be 7168/0.002 = 3.58 Mbps This can accommodate 21 MAC-d PDU of size 336 bits (payload of 320 bits). Thus maximum RLC layer throughput is 320*21/0.002 = 3.36 Mbps Assuming a 10% MAC-hs re-transmission rate, this reduces to 3.36*0.9 = 3.024 Mbps HSDPA 7.2 Mbps The maximum transport block size for 10 codes, 16QAM is 14411 bits. The maximum physical layer throughput (ignoring re-transmissions and assuming scheduling in all TTI) would be 14411/0.002 = 7.2 Mbps This can accommodate 21 MAC-d PDU of size 656 bits (payload of 640 bits). Thus maximum RLC layer throughput is 640*21/0.002 = 6.72 Mbps Assuming a 10% MAC-hs re-transmission rate, this reduces to 6.72*0.9 = 6.0 Mbps HSDPA 10.8 Mbps The maximum transport block size for 15 codes, 16QAM is 19891 bits. The maximum physical layer throughput (ignoring re-transmissions and assuming scheduling in all TTI) would be 19891/0.002 = 9.95 Mbps This can accommodate 30 MAC-d PDU of size 656 bits (payload of 640 bits). Thus maximum RLC layer throughput is 640*30/0.002 = 9.6 Mbps Assuming a 10% MAC-hs re-transmission rate, this reduces to 9.6*0.9 = 8.64 Mbps

Idle Mode L3 Messages(Cell Selection/Reselection Methods.
There are two procedure for cell selection. Initial cell selection/Stored info cell selection.

Signaling procedures for cell selection

Description 1:The AS sends the NAS the cell selection information that includes the PLMN identity and all available registration areas. 2:The NAS sends the AS these registration areas. 3:The AS selects or reselects a cell in the selected registration area.

3G L3 messages-TEMS Investigation
Cell Reselection Procedure:
After selecting a cell and camping on it, the UE periodically searches for a better cell according to the cell reselection criteria. The better cell is the most suitable one for the UE to camp on and obtain services. The QoS of this cell is not necessarily more satisfying. If finding such a cell, the UE selects this cell to camp on.

The system broadcasts the cell selection and reselection information within the cell through SIB3 to control the cell selection/reselection measurement for the UEs

L3 Idle mode messages and there descriptions
BCCH carries system information block (SIB). The system information elements are broadcast in SIBs. An SIB groups together system information elements of the same nature. Different SIBs have different characteristics, for example, their repetition rate and the requirements on UEs to re-read the SIBs. .
