1.Power branch A input from PDU 2.Supervision input (Either from RP or from other FAN unit extension port) 3.MIA LED 4.Supervision extension Port 5.Power branch B input from PDU

where it is mounted as a normal low height sub rack. It can be placed above or below the magazine to be cooled. It is internally built up of three fans and a control board. SCB-RP controls the FAN units with DENIB protocol by means of supervision cable connected at V24 or V10 port of SCB-RP board. FAN units are connected in chain mode ,it mean all the units connected in chain are controlled by single SCB RP. This is mainly due to ,for the magazines GDM,APG,CP does not have any SCB-RP board for controlling the FAN units.

the manual intervention on the fan unit is indicated by the Manual Intervention Allowed (MIA) Light Emitting Diode (LED). The controller RP provides access to the MIA LED on the fan unit magazine. The LED can be: ON indicating that the fan unit can be removed without any system disturbance. OFF indicating that the fan unit cannot be removed without disturbance. The MIA LED is illuminated (turned to ON) when there are faults on the fan units, indicated by the FAN MAGAZINE FAULT alarm. The MIA LED is extinguished (turned to OFF) when there is no fault on the fan unit. In the case that the LED is not turned ON, it could be due to one of the following reasons: The controller RP is already blocked or faulty. The fan unit has hardware or communication faults. The function is not supported. If the LED is not turned OFF, it might be due to one of the above indicated reasons.

Different kinds of alarms on FAN Magazine Unit: TEMPERATURE>65* C

The temperature on the fan unit exceeds 65 degrees Celsius.

TEMPERATURE>55* C
The temperature on the fan unit exceeds 55 degrees Celsius.

TEMPERATURE SENSOR OUT OF RANGE

The fan temperature sensor has detected a temperature which is out of the range or the fan temperature sensor is faulty.

MOTOR CURRENT OUT OF RANGE

One or more of fan motor current is out of range.

FAN INTERNAL COMMUNICATION ERROR

The fan unit has an internal communication error.

FAN MOTOR REGULATION ERROR

One or more of the fan motors have a current regulation fault.

POWER BRANCH A ERROR

The power branch A of the fan unit is faulty.

POWER BRANCH B ERROR

The power branch B of the fan unit is faulty.

COMMUNICATION ERROR-PROTOCOL
There is a protocol communication fault between the fan unit and the controller regional processor.

COMMUNICATION ERROR-FRAMING
There is a framing communication fault between the fan unit and the controller regional processor.

COMMUNICATION ERROR-CHECKSUM
There is a checksum error on exchanging data between the fan unit and the controller regional processor.

COMMUNICATION ERROR-ADDRESS MODE

There is an addressing mode communication fault between the fan unit and the controller regional processor.

RP BLOCKED
The regional processor is blocked.

The fan magazine has a temperature sensor, which is located close to the fan air stream. The fan motor voltage is controlled according to the temperature of this temperature sensor. The magazine contains current sensors and supervises the -48V voltage distributed to the fans when the temperature rises up to 55 Celsius or it detects malfunction on the fan current or the power, the fan magazine sends signals to the RP via DENIB protocol for maintaining the fan.

If temperature sensor of FAN unit detects more than >55*C ,then room temperature needs to be checked (like AC). If room temperature is found OK, then the supervision cable for maintaining the FAN may be faulty or loose connections. or the temperature sensor is faulty which is present inside the FAN unit, So in this case FAN unit need to be replaced. Sometimes this alarm may get hanged ,which can e be rectified by block/deblock the RP or by power cycling the FAN Unit.

In case of Motor Current out of range and FAN Motor regulation error, the regulatory unit may got faulty or malfunctioning, To rectify this case, power cycle of FAN Unit or Unit to be replaced.
Power branch A or B error case, power input of A or B need to be checked carefully (and voltage should be in range of -48V to -72V. ) and socket ports need to be tightened. Check any external alarms in node.Check the power cable fuse at the other end of the cable. Which is located in PDU.

Communication Errors are mainly due to supervision cables/controlling RP problems. In this case, block, deblock the RP or supervision cable need to be changed from where the communication error alarm generating.

How to clear FAN unit alarm?

Proceed with the following steps to clear this alarm. 1.Analyse the alarm printout. find the RP No, FAN unit No and the event of alarm. 2.Trace the FAN unit ,by means of RP no and FAN unit No, if unit no is 2 it indicates that the unit is 2nd one in chain. For finding the location use expop command. Expop:rp=<RP No>,EM=<FAN Unit No>; -Trace the unit by means of supervision cables. -The other way of tracing the unit is by means of MIA LED on FAN unit by checking the unit for which LED glows and reconfirming the same by Serial Number, product number and revision number.

If alarm print out is like this:

4.Power cycle the FAN unit. Block the RP ,take out the A side power cable and measure the voltage (should be between -48V to -72V)and replace the cable deblock the RP and check whether the alarm cleared or not. if not follow the same with B side .
Do not take out both the power cables at the same time.

5.Replace the FAN unit. Before this check the version and product number of the new FAN unit. FAN unit product number should match with the units connected in chain. And the units connected in upper chain be of upper version that is descending order can be allowed (personal experience in activity, not sure)

6.If alarm not cleared even after replacing, then need to check supervision cables connectivity. Supervision cables are present in between every FAN Unit and they got faulty and can checked by swapping the cables or request for Supervision cables.

Magazine Power fault

A MAGAZINE POWER FAULT alarm is received when a power fault is detected in one of the two -48V branches in a magazine, connected to a Regional Processor Bus of Serial type (RPB-S) or Regional Processor Bus of Ethernet type (RPB-E). Select action, depending on whether the magazine is supervised by one or two Regional Processors (RPs).

Magazine Power Supplied through Two Supervising RPs

1. Check that the power cables are properly connected/tightened to the RP board. 2.Check the Voltage coming through power cables ,if all found ok then jack in-out or SCBRP needs to be replaced. 3.You can also swap the power cable with FAN unit power cable.

MAGAZINE POWER FAULT MAGAZINE POWER FAULT BRANCH RP-A RP-B DETECTED A 128 129 BOTH

All RP's are working fine. Group Switch is ok.

All RP's will be working. Each SCB-RP in a mag has 03 input supply ports. The below print says power supply to the A-Plane(BRANCH-A) of the magazine is NOT OK.. Which also means out of the 03 power supply cables to A-Plane of the mag atleast one power cable is not giving proper power supply to the SCB-RP.

Solution: 1) Block the RP of A-Plane SCBRP. 2) remove the power cables from SCB-RP card one-by-one and check the input voltage(should be 53-55V) with the help of multimeter. 3) Remove one power cable at a time and re-insert the same before you plug out the next cable. 4) Any cable that shows improper supply should be replaced. 5) You may even find that all the cables are OK with proper power supply in that case there is a problem with the connector of any one of the power cable. This is a common problem found in HD BSC's. To find which of the 03 cables is faulty the best and easy way is to plug out any one cable and replace it temporarily with a FAN power cable which should be close by and look if the Mgazine Power fault ceases. If it doesn't then you should follow the same step for remaining two cables.
