Family Life

In the Egyptian family life, the father was the leader of the house and was the responsible of providing the needs for the family. The mother usually stayed at home and raised the children. By age four would the children help the father in the field or train as a craftsman.

Education
Not many boys and girls went to Scribal School. Most boys and girls who went were very rich. When they grew up, they would enter the royal service as a wealthy scribe or a famous pharaoh. People who were less fortunate had to decide what occupation they wanted to do, and become a apprentice of the occupation they wanted to be.

Food
The Egyptian people ate many different types of food. The poor people ate a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables while the rich people ate different types of meat. Priests compared Pigs to the evil god Set, so many people refrained from eating time. But they mostly ate calves, oxen, ducks, gooses or pigeons. These animals were expensive because there werent many grazing pastures at that time. Also, they tried to salt the meat to preserve it, but instead they got dry meat.

Clothing
Men wore a wrap around skirt tightened by a belt. Rich Egyptian people would decorate it with as much jewelry as possible. Women would wear full length dresses with one or two shoulder straps. Rich Egyptian women (Like the men) would also decorate their dresses with all types of jewelry which they believed would look more attractive to the gods.

Homes
Homes were broken down into two classes: The noble home and the Peasants home. The nobles home would be a villa down the Nile river. Some were made from White Limestone, which sparkled under the sun. Each villa had 25-30 roads, and each room would have its own purpose. (family rooms, guests rooms, play room etc.) Each peasant had their own home, which was built out of sun-dried bricks. Peasants could build their houses as big as they wanted, as long as they did it themselves.

Recreation
During their free time, the Egyptian people would go fishing for food, hunted for food and played a very popular board game called Senet.

Religion
The Egyptians worshipped many gods, but mainly worshipped the two chief gods: Amun-Ra and Osiris. Amun-Ra was said to be the god of the sun and the god of the universe while Osiris was the god of the underworld. Each city in Egypt had a temple built to worship a particular god. The priests were the people who was said to have communications to the god.
