The general truth is Mathematics is always included in all curriculum as early as the first school, and as early as the

first school day of a child and up to the last step of higher education and beyond. Nevertheless, the world of Math and computation is always associated in daily lives even in children. It is always big tasks in all levels of studies whether the learners like it or not. Just like Mathematics, Language is also a burdening task that cannot be ignored. As of today, to speak fluently in English becomes a requirement to finish a course. To become good in English is not only a trend, but also a tool to become globally competitive. Nowadays, these two subjects can be compared to giant that the learners must face, for no one can go up to the next level without encountering the burden of these two. The comparative result between the grades in English and Mathematics subject and also the interpretation is very important in the solution of mathematics problem and that it is generally accepted that lack of proficiency in English Language is a factor contributing to the poor performance in mathematics, also observed is that students who pass the words problems are likely to pass non-word problems in mathematics. It is generally believed that most practical based subjects in the schools, from primary to the tertiary educational system both public and private school propensity to execute and teach these skills effectively as emphasis is laid on the teaching and learning of the subject through theoretical approach even when provisions like tools, equipment, facilities and workshop are provided for this purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present and determine the comparison of the grade of 30 students (15 boys & 15 girls) between Math and English subject, using the computational version of the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Specially, this paper sought to answer the question: Is there a correlation between the performances of each student in their two subjects? For example: If one student is good in math does it mean that he/she also get the same grade in English or the opposite way?

The significance of this study is to find out the correlation of two subjects, showing proficiency in English Language as a factor contributing to competency in Mathematics. This will only produce students who are very knowledgeable in the theoretical aspect of the subject to the detriment of the practical skills required for handling such area.

The comparative study involving Math and English will be revealed by 15 male students and 15 female students, in random selection, of second year level of Lucena Dalahican National High School, Lucena City. Although, this study covers exclusively Math and English, it is limited to the information about second year students only and for a time period of one school year.

Direct interviews have been done by the researchers regarding the performance of high school students in Math and English. The persons interviewed were three Math major teachers, three English major teachers, and three advisers. The researchers strongly believed that they are reliable since they are equipped with years in service. According to the three Math teachers, Generally speaking, more boys show good performance in Math than girls. According to the interviewed English teachers, Female students are better than male students when it comes to English. The advisers said that only few students from both gender excel in Math and English at the same time, wherein most of them experience difficulties but they have to work hard especially when they are competing for honor and scholarships

To compare the overall performance of II-Faith students of LDNHS, mean scores and SD were calculated and the Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient was applied to determine the relationship between the subjects Math and English, as perceived by their teachers, and as shown by the students

Correlation None Small Medium

Negative 0.09 to 0.0 0.3 to 0.1 0.5 to 0.3

Positive 0.0 to 0.09 0.1 to 0.3 0.3 to 0.5

The value of mean is greater in English compared to Mathematics. This signifies that learning English is easier than Math. 2. Based on the gathered data, 12/30 students, regardless of gender, obtained higher grade in Math than in English. The researchers interpreted this that, truly, there are students who are potentially good in figures and that they can understand Math despite the fact that they do not perform well in English subject. 3. The correlation 0.19288 is low/small as stated in the table of interpretation of the size of correlation found in the framework of the study.
1.

As observed on the results of findings, the correlation between Math and English subjects is low. There are students who are slightly good in English than in Math and vice versa.

Since there is no correlation between the two subjects, the same attention and time should be given to both subjects. However, it is recommended that teachers must be attentive to students with low performance on either subject, and the students must be advised to pay extra effort and time to subject in which they find is more difficult for them.
