Thirteen kinds of Ascetic Practices

The refuse rag-wearers practice (pasuklikaga) Two statements are required: I refuse robes given by householders or I undertake the refuse-rag-wearers practice

Robes from:

A charnel ground 2 from shop 3 from street 4 from a midden 5 from a childbed 6 an ablution cloth 7 from washing place

One worn going to and returning from 9 One scorched by fire 10 One gnawed by cattle 11 One carried as a flag 12 A robe from a shrine 13 One from a consecration 14 One produced by supernormal power 15 One from a highway

Benefits:

1 no suffering due to protecting 2 he exits independent of others 3 there is no fear of robbers 4 there is no craving connected with use Or it inspires confidence. It produces the fruits of fewness of wishes. The right way is cultivated. A good example is set to later generations.

How to practice

volition of the act of undertaking is the ascetic practice All have the function of eliminating cupidity, and they manifest themselves with the production of non-cupidity. Approximate cause: they have the noble states consisting of fewness of wishes, and so on.

Place of undertaking

If the blessed One is alive, practice should be undertaken in the blessed Ones presence. 2. Undertaken in the presence of a principal disciple. 3. In the presence of one whose cankers are destroyed, non- returner etc. 4. On knows the Tipitakas

One knows two Pitakas 6. One knows one Pitaka 7. One knows one collection 8. One knows a teacher commentaries 9. If such persons are not available, it should be done in the presence of an observer of an ascetic practice

If not, one swept out the shrine Terrance, they can be undertaken seated in a reverential posture as through pronouncing them in the Fully enlightened Ones presence. 11. it is also permitted to undertake them by oneself .
