FINAL CUT PRO

For editing my film I used Final Cut Pro, to begin with I found this program difficult to use and understand but with research on the internet and practice I began to familiarize myself with the software. When planning my short film I Knew I wanted a lot of shots that also meant a lot more editing. I learnt how to use the razor blade tool where I was able to cut the shots at the correct time to make it flow better. To change from scene to scene I used the transition tool, dissolve. At the beginning of my short film I wanted to introduce it, I used a text video generator so I was able to type the title our. I then used the text effect again at the end for credits, this meant I used the scroll down effect, this made my film look more professional and I was able to give credit to actors and editors etc. I also found out that Final Cut Pro is not easy to use as most of my short film files went offline, and had to restart my film. This taught me not to save all my files separately and I because I had to do it again gave me more practice and made the overall film better. When editing I learnt different shots such as a jump shot where I was able to reduce a long take my editing out some sections. I also added fade ins and fade outs, this gave a dramatic ending to a scene for example the doctors scene. Through final cut pro I was able to add all my shots, music and voice over. This helped me make the film flow better as I was able to edit to every second

DIGITAL CAMERA
I learnt how to use a digital camera and how to work a tripod. What I loved the most about this project was being able to set up a shot, I really enjoyed doing close up shots as you were able to really see the actors reaction. Using the tripod I learnt how to change it to get different angles and heights, I added a few mid shots in the doctors scene to make it more of a conversation set out.

GARAGEBAND
I used GarageBand to record the voice over where I was able to pick different voice effects, I picked female voice effect to give it more of a softer tone. I also used GarageBand to record the song Samson by Regina Spektor, I found it easy to use and I think the overall sound was great.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
I first learnt about Adobe Photoshop last year in AS while doing a music magazine. This year I feel my skills have developed as I leant how to edit a photograph, I changed the exposure, brightness and contrast. I also leant about layers, I find this an easier way to stay in control of my work and be able to edit faster and more productive.

ADOBE INDESINGN
This was my first time using Adobe InDesign and felt it was easy to pick up and understand. The main thing I liked about InDesign was the use of measurements when designing my poster, this made sure my font was all spaced out correctly and made it more professional. It also had a great selection of fonts and made it easier to decide on which look I was going for.

WEB 2.0
Web 2.0 is the second generation of the web, it emergence of new media technologies and different types of applications used to transfer information via digital techniques, computerized systems or data networks. These include internet based concepts like websites, blogs and digital mediums (CD-ROMS and DVDSs) . We used YouTube for our research to looking at other short films, this gave us an understanding of what we had to include in our piece. Web 2.0 allows users to interact, participate and collaborate together through social networking, I felt I used this to my advantage by adding my film to YouTube. Web 2.0 is most known for the arrival of user-generation content which give more power to the people. Therefore people can now comment and rate our short film through YouTube and have their opinion come across. We used the internet a lot for research for example I searched different film festivals to see what people likes and what film won. I also used the internet to search for instruction for Final Cut Pro and through blogs and forums I was able to learn a lot more.
