INTRODUCTION
Light Emitting Polymers are special plastic materials that convert electrical

power into visible light.

light-emitting polymers (LEP) was discovered in 1990. Polymer need to show fluorescence and to conduct electricity to be a LEP.

WHAT IS LEP
LEP is a polymer that emits light when a voltage is applied to it. When electrons and holes are injected from the electrodes, the

recombination of these charge carriers takes place, which leads to emission of light that escape through glass substrate.
The structure comprises a thin film semi conducting polymer sandwiched

between two electrodes namely anode and cathode.

WORKING OF LEP
Electric field is applied between two electrodes. The electron are injected from cathode and holes from anode. The injected charges recombined &decay radiatively

Light Emitting Polymers

LEP can be used in Laptop

screens, cell phones, TV screens, calculators, digital cameras, and in a future almost everything.

Light Emitting Polymers

Light Emitting Polymers have

many advantages. Enable more energy efficiency They are thin which will enable then to be placed into any flat surface. There will be no limitations in size Light weight Can be seen from any angle without the loss of information Extraordinary resolution which will provide high quality imaging. Flexibility

ADVANTAGES
Require only 3.3 volts and have lifetime of more than 30,000 hours. Low power consumption. Self luminous. Display fast moving images with optimum clarity.

APPLICATIONS
Photovoltaic Poly Led TV MP3 Player Display

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Because the plastics can be made in the form of thin films or sheets, they

offer a huge range of applications. These include television or computer screens that can be rolled up and tossed in a briefcase, and cheap videophones.
A fully integrated analytical chip that contains an integrated light source

and detector could provide powerful point-of-care technology

CONCLUSION
It has both electrical and optical property. It is simpler &cheaper. It permits flexible lighting and display .
