DESCRIPTION The building follows the contours of the hill outcrop and elevated on concrete piles allowing for surface habitat to remain. Open, concrete hallways span the length of the hotel, providing easy access to amenities while providing the guest with an unprecedented view of the surrounding environment.

GEOFFREY BAWA

We adhere to a philosophy of sustainable development that encompasses the following areas:

Energy efficiency, conservation and management Reduction of freshwater consumption Waste water management Minimization of waste, reuse and recycling Air quality protection and noise control Land use planning Social and cultural development Ecosystem conservation

SITING

A total of 26 local species are grown this way and replanted around the hotel site

Hotel designed into and around the surrounding rock outcrops (including pools, patios).

Daylighting design throughout Small, treeshaded, gravel parking lot.

The entire hotel is built on a raised platform allowing water to flow under the hotel. It also allows the free flow of animals under the hotel, creating a minimum impact on the eco system

INTERIOR

Hotel designed into and around the surrounding rock outcrops (including pools, patios).

Interior spaces are mostly open to the outside with extensive fenestration allowing for adequate day lighting of most public and private spaces

The concrete structure is shaded by ample wood overhangs.

The concrete roof, which can absorb a large amount of passive solar energy, is being covered by sod with the intent of growing organic produce and insulating the structure.

The main reception ,desk is a reclaimed piece of old growth timber.

Water is being collected from rainwater

DESIGN

Passive solar cooling design utilizing building shading through overhangs

Insulated and sealed doors and guestrooms to reduce cooling loads.

Mobility impaired access (stairs, concrete corridors).

Natural stone and gravel parking lot.

Small shaded tree rise up the sense of welcoming

MATERIALS

Reclaimed wood products used in construction

Minimal use of paint. Design includes many natural materials unfinished

WATER

Low flush toilets and fixtures.

Grey water from filters and softeners in the water treatment plant is collected and used to spray the gravel to reduce the distribution of dust.

ENERGY Within the next two years, hotel management expects to meet 40% of its energy requirements through solar energy Lamps that are used for more than four hours per day have been replaced with energy efficient fluorescent lamps. The replacement of incandescent lamps in all public areas with compact fluorescent lamps has saved 75,000 kWh per year.

The hotel has a comprehensive energy conservation policy with power cut-off switches, energy efficient lighting , photo active garden lights and solar power hot water systems
