PROJECT DETAILS
Cement replacement using egg shell powder and sugarcane sludge. Sand replacement using M-Sand and foundry sand.

CEMENT REPLACEMENT

INTRODUCTION
When Egg Shell Powder(ESP) was added to concrete along with Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash it was proved to be successful up to M30 Grade of concrete. Same combination when tested for M30 the required strength was not achieved. So we decided to add Sugarcane Sludge(SS) along with ESP.

MATERIAL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

SUGARCANE SLUDGE

PROJECT PROGRESS
The control specimens are (cubes ,cylinders) casted and subjected to 7, 14, and 28 days to test the compressive strength, split tensile strength respectively. Sugarcane sludge is dried, powder and passed through 90 sieve. Egg shell powder is passed through 90 sieve.

Mix Design

The optimum percentage of materials to be added was found by casting cement cubes of size 75x75x75mm. ESP is 5% and SS in increasing order of 5% by weight of cement is added. Materials were added for both PPC and OPC.

Compressive strength of control specimen.

Split tensile strength of control specimen.

Egg Shell Powder and Sugarcane Sludge, both added in 5% to M30 Grade concrete mix.

When mortar test was performed the required strength was achieved for OPC, this proves that there is bonding between ESP, SS and fine aggregate. Same optimum percentage was added and tested for M30 Grade concrete. Required strength was not achieved. Because the bonding between SS and Coarse aggregate was desirable. Hence we conclude that the SS cannot be used for concrete but it can be used for mortar purpose.

SAND REPLACEMENT

MATERIALS
Foundry Sand is high quality silica sand that is a by product from the production of both ferrous and nonferrous metal castings. M-Sand is crushed aggregate produced from granite stone. It is washed and graded with consistency to be used as substitute of river sand.

FURTHER PROCESS
Control specimens are (cubes ,cylinders) casted and subjected to 7, 14, and 28 days to test the compressive strength, split tensile strength respectively. Same tests are performed by replacing the river sand completely with the above sand materials. ESP is added in 5% by weight of cement.
