Scriptural Reflection

Gospel Luke 9:28-36

About eight days after he said this, he took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountains to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.

And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but by becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.

Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my chosen Son, Listen to him. After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

The Mountain Experience

This is how we describe the feeling after having encountered and felt Gods presence. We feel light, our hearts overflows with joy, and even moved to tears after realizing how much God love us and blesses us.

The Mountain Experience

The experience recharges us, strengthen us and inspire us to continue. But sometimes when clouds overshadow us, like financial problems in the family, or when we get sick, we get into trouble, it is when we become afraid and anxious like the disciples.

During these times, God wants us to listen. He tells us to be silent amidst the shadows of our lives so that we can hear his voice. When we truly listen, it is when we hear Gods voice and his voice becomes our assurance that he will be with us forever.

The Mountain Experience

When we encounter God, the old self dies. And a new self is born. The disciple is never the same there is renewal of mind, heart and soul. Renewal can only be sustained when in constant communion with God that is PRAYER.

When you have problems, where do turn to find refuge? When you encounter difficulties, do you turn to God to ask for help? Everyday, how much time do you give to God to pray?
