APARAJITHA FOUNDATIONS

Introduction

Aparajitha foundations is a charitable trust which is with the objective of supporting the less privileged mainly in terms of education & health. The trust focuses on transformational changes to build a stronger community as against transactional changes which may or may not be term benefits to the society. Bharath Krishna Sankar Managing trustee of the APARAJITHA foundations whose interest in people was the main idea behind the origin of this trust. Nagaraj K is the joint managing director who is leading the operations.

Case Summary
THALIR THIRAN THITTAM (TTT) is a pioneer project launched by the company was started in 2008 with a vision of Creating a transformational change through awareness at school level by giving the adolescent children, an exposure to skills which are extremely important to life but not covered by the regular curriculum. The goal of TTT is To prepare students the students of Tamilnadu to make informed choices and to provide skills that they need so as to cope up with issues and problems related to the entire spectrum of their survival and well being

CONTD The three basic reasons for launching TTT were There was no comprehensive project to ensure that these skills were integrated into the normal curriculum It had witnessed that people coming from rural background who had learnt the life skills in their workplace so if the younger generations are prepared with such skills then they would face the world more confidently The growing number of depression and anxiety among children across schools needed immediate attention

Idea & Process of ttt


The TTT for its curriculum had followed the articles 29A-F of the united nations convention on the rights of the child, 1989 provided useful insights for the projects foundation. The process of the TTT is as follows 1) Curriculum development 2) Curriculum delivery 3) Program implementation 4) Program Reinforcement 5) Impact analysis 6) Action research

In the curriculum the TTT referred the list of essential skills listed by the WHO. Like Self awareness Empathy Communication & the other skills are Value clarification Etiquette Goal setting etc

During 2008 -2009 the program was launched in five corporation schools in Madurai (rural & urban & semi-urban). Around 445 students were covered and 20 skills were imparted over a period of one year. After this Department of school education issued an order to take TTT to 4239 GOVT schools were the sessions were planned for class & students

Responses & Concerns


After the successful implementation, the teachers were of the opinion that there was a transformational change in the students as they became better behaved. A faculty has also stated that After attending the lesson transcending barriers, many students have got rid of their inferiority The monitoring system of the scheme started the process of calling the institution and verifying the implementation of the program and it is still worried that a large number of schools have not answered their calls. Possible solutions
1. To make the TTT scheme mandatory as a part of the curriculum and to have evaluation criteria like exams 2. To teach the headmaster & the teachers the importance of TTT and then to motivate them to teach TTT. 3. The TTT team can also teach the students directly and then another team could monitor the improvements 4. As it is not a part of the curriculum a nominal amount can also be paid to the teachers for teaching it. 5. To teach it through interactive and attractive games.

Through SHG & NGO , through SHG A women self help group like --------------------- can be provided training on hoe to teach TTT to the students. To approach people who are passionate to teach but are not teachers. Regarding colleges a diploma paper could be added .
