SEPAK TAKRAW

INTRO
Sepaktakraw is a unique traditional game which originated from Southeast Asia for over 500 years ago. Similar to the American game, Hacky Sack. In 1965, the circle game adopted a more competitive format by various Southeast Asian countries and caught on as fast paced action sport into what is of ficially known today as Sepaktakraw. Sepak is a term used in Malaysia meaning kick and Takraw is a Thai word for a woven ball. Sepak Takraw

THE COURT/ BALL

Spherical in shape Made of synthetic fiber of one woven layer. Without synthetic rubber covering must consist of the following characteristics; Have 12 holes. Have 20 intersections. Has a circumference measuring from 0.41m to 0.43m for men and from 0.42m to 0.44m for women. Has a weight that range from 170 gm to 180 gm for men and from 150 gm to 160 gm for women.

THE PLAYERS
A match is played by two regus (teams), referred to as Regu or Regus, each consisting of three players . One of the three players shall be at the back and he is called a Tekong (Server) The other two players shall be in front, one on the left and the other on the right. The player on the left is called a Left Inside and the player on the right is called a Right Inside. Both are referred to as Inside players. Players warm-up

There should be five referees; match, assistant match, court, and two linesmen. Ye l l o w a n d R e d c a r d s a r e g i v e n f o r a c e r t a i n d e g r e e o f o f f e n s i v e s . T h e p e n a l t i e s v a r y according to how many one gets in a game or a tournament. Cautionary of fences: Is guilty of unspor ting behavior by the display of such action that can be reasonably regarded as either a mitigated or unmitigated violation of the norms of sporting ethics, which can be considered as having or will have a detrimental ef fect on the proper conduct of the match as a whole. Shows dissent by word or action Persistently infringes the Laws of the Game Delays the restart of play Enters or re-enters the court without the Referee's permission Deliberately leaves the court without the Referee's permission. Sending-off Of fences A player is sent of f and shown the red card if he commits any of the following five of fences: Is guilty of serious foul play Is guilty of violent conduct, including an act executed with deliberate intent to cause injury to his/her opponent Spits at an opponent or any other person Using of fensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures Receives a second caution (Yellow Card) in the same match.

SCORING
When either ser ving side or receiving side commits a fault, a point is awarded to the opponent side. Each set is won by the side which scores fif teen (15) points with a minimum lead of two (2) points. In the event of a 14 -14 tie, the set shall be won by the side which gets a lead of two (2) points, or when a side reaches 17 points (whichever occur s fir st). When the score is tied at 14 -14, the Match Referee will announce setting up to 17 points. Each match ( Regu and Doubles) will be determined on the basis of a best-of-5-sets format, with 2 -minute breaks between sets. Sets will be referred to as the fir st, second, third, four th and fif th sets.
