INTERNET & GAMING

AN INTERN COLLABORATION

INTERNET
Internet is the benchmark of todays technological world. Internet today has become the eyes, ears of our world. Its become the fastest means of getting information and gathering the required resources to obtain any desired goal or development of any technology.

Internet continued
Internet as we all know is an information super highway Internet is itself an ocean and is very vast in its applications Internet now has learnt to blend itself with the surroundings it is used in and has an edge over all major networking applications.

GAMING
Gaming was once considered just to be an object of fun and entertainment. But today gaming has opened a new world for all kinds of people. Gaming has become one of the most important and highly rated market makers. Now the way technology has advanced bringing in cutting edge graphics and state of the art effects including sound that has turned gaming to a hot and happening event.

MORE ABOUT GAMING.

Gaming was once only a concept worth a few pixels. Gaming now is growing bigger, in fact it has surpassed the world of cinema in a way or two. History of gaming dates back to the 1980s and 1990s. We on the other hand discuss gaming in todays world.

INTERNET+GAMING
Now coming to gaming and internet which have a intern relationship of their own. Gaming now has evolved, into something bigger from which one could ever imagine. Internet and gaming have collaborated into a completely new application.

Continued
Internet provides the necessary resources such as connectivity required between clients and servers, and the games would provide their share, i.e Fun and excitement. So internet and gaming put together became a winning combination for most of the top leading software firms like Microsoft, Nintendo and other popular firms who cashed in raised their revenue to greater heights.

GAMING SERVERS
What is a gaming server? How does a gaming server work? Glitches in gaming?

What is a gaming server?

A gaming server is one that manages and works with the various clients that log onto it. Clients are basically gamers who want to play and enjoy over the internet against opponents from various places. Clients can vary in number for which the server should have the ability to handle the load.

How does a Gaming Server Look

When a person is playing a game from his or her computer on the net, it connects to game servers such as these

Little More On Gaming Server

Any gaming server has a set of clients connected to it. The client system and as well as the server system must and should have the application installed on them Whenever the client logs on to the game he has to configure himself to the server say by entering the IP address so that the server comes to know of this new client.

AND THEN.
Once the client is ready and the server has identified the client, the client can enter into the game Once he enters the game he now can use the resources provided by the game and start playing

How Gaming Servers Work

The following is a basic idea of how information is sent from your computer to the server as well as other computers on the network: When a person is playing a game online, whats a little more important is not the speed but rather the amount of hops, traceroutes, that the data packets from the computer have to bounce through (routers/switches) to get to its destination.

How Gaming Servers Work

The moment When you input information from your computer it bounces. Here is a technical example:
Tracing route to 209.179.21.10 over a maximum of 30 hops

How Gaming Servers Work

The route that the data packet takes would be from a house in Los Angeles to several places across the country until it reaches the game server say somewhere in Pasadena.

How Gaming Servers Work

How Gaming Servers Work

You tell the computer to shoot (Normally by pressing the left button on the mouse)

The data packet is then sent to the server, via traceroutes. The server then receives the information and sends another data packet known as a reply packet which confirms the packet has been received.

How Gaming Servers Work

While at the same time, the server calculates your position in 3D space, the direction of the projectile, and takes the position of the enemy in 3D space and his movement speed and direction. It will then calculate whether or not you successfully hit your target. ENEMY HERE

The server decides that you successfully hit your target. It then sends data packets (hit points lost, armor, etc.) to both you and the enemy telling you that the enemy has been hit.
YOU ARE HERE

CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU HAVE ELIMINATED THE ENEMY - SERVER

How Gaming Servers Work

This is the basic idea of how information is sent between gamers and the server. KEY TERM: Replication Taking data from a given client and replicating it (duplicating + adding to it) back to all the clients.

Additional but Essential

Now coming back to gaming. Games are multithreaded applications. So we must make sure the processor which we are using must be very much capable of running the application Usually the processors of the yester years are single core.

WHATS ON NOW
So nowadays companies like INTEL and AMD are rolling out processors having more than one core such as the dual core processors The main advantage of having dual core processors are there are two processors which provide double the computational power and speed. So, games will literally run smoothly on such processors minimizing the glitches and improve the effects.

MORE
Now the main area that is being researched is Gaming using ADHOC Technology. Gaming in Adhoc will open a new dimension if the research succeeds, as a person can play from anywhere no matter where he is. So Adhoc Gaming is the next and emerging technology in gaming.

gLITCHES iN gAMING
Un usual hanging of the application due to shortage of resources such as I/O, memory or processes. Decreasing the performance level of the system CHEATING The user may not be able to feel and experience the full power of gaming in such situations due to the above mentioned glitches

CHEATING
This has by far been the most probable and common glitch in gaming People use cheat codes that are programmed to change the characteristics of the game and run according to the users favour. This is a case of bad sportmanship and very illegal.

More about Cheating.

So most companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, Atari are developing games with built in programs to prevent the occurrence of cheating So any person trying to cheat when playing will be denied of it. In mutliplayer tournaments players cheating, will be caught and will be disqualified with help from such in built anti cheating software programs.

CONCLUSIONS
Gaming and internet could bring in lot of attraction and money as well. Gaming now is the one of the fastest way to become rich apart from polictics and lottery. We saw how a gaming server is configured and also how clients connected to the server play their role in running the gaming applications installed on them. Advancements- the future of the gaming has in store for us, i.e using the Adhoc Technology.
