DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXT

 Depending on the purpose of a text, different language, layout, structure and tone will be used to get the message across to the reader.

INSTRUCTIONAL TEXTS
Are written in an ordered logical way Are written as though the reader is being spoken to yet rarely use the word you Use direct language with no unnecessary words Sometimes use diagrams or pictures to aid understanding E.G Put all ingredients in bowl. Whisk until fully mixed.

EXPLANATORY TEXTS
Introduce the subject and define key terms. Follow a logical order May include diagrams, charts or illustrations E.G. To remove the stain apply soda water on a soft cloth working inwards to avoid spreading the stain

INFORMATIVE TEXTS
Usually avoid repetition Contain facts Give information in a clear, logical way e.g. Due to Bank Holiday Monday collections will take place on Tuesday May 7th this week

DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS
Will often contain adjectives and adverbs Sometimes use comparisons to help paint a picture in the reader s mind Will often involve the five senses feel, smell, look, sound and taste Will reflect the writer s own opinion and feelings E.G. The morning was crisp and sharp with the smell of autumn lingering among the fallen leaves.

PERSUASIVE TEXTS
often contain opinions may distort facts/ statistics may use repeated words may use capital letters for emphasis may use exclamation marks may use humour may ask rhetorical questions (Do you feel stressed?)
