Reducing level is the process of leveling the area of the site to the required level as stated in the layout plan of project. Generally, there are 3 method of reducing level include such as cut method, fill method and cut and fill method.

To identify the method of reducing level. To identify the procedure of reducing level. To identify the machineries that suitable for the method. To define the advantage and disadvantage of the method that use on the chosen site.

The project is to upgrade the flood resistance system in UiTM Shah Alam. By using method of Cut and Fill in the process of reducing level.

There is three methods to calculate cut and fill volume, that is cross sectional area and grid method.

Formula: Area of cut or fill A1= bd1 + sd21 Volume of cut or fill V= [(A1 + A2 )/2 ] x length

The ground is 20x20 and proposed RL 47.0

Method of reducing level The procedure for cut and fill Machinery that used in construction Problems occurring on the site. Advantages and disadvantages of using those machines.

The construction is using cut and fill method. The ways are open cut and sheet pile. Open cut usually used for reducing level at slope and high strength soil. Sheet pile is used for lower strength soil.

the area and depth of the excavation been determined. At 2 meter the excavation stage will stop to check whether the are and depth are correct.

After that, excavation stage is started.

After installed sheet pile, excavator is used to excavate the whole area.

At the level 3 meter, the cut stage is stop. After that the base of excavation area is installed casting slab.

After the process surveying finished, the excavation process is continued until it reach the 3 meter depth.

The sewers pipe is put and the stage of backfill is started.

The type of the soil is clay, so when raining, the ground will turn into a mud. Wheeled type vehicle and will not able to move on the soft and muddy ground condition. Limited movement will be the cause of delay.

Advantages

easily move around the site Capable to do the required work. Time efficient the crawler tracker is very useful in the site area that is full of mud.

Disadvantages
o Large machines has limited access in the site. o crawler tracker it is easier to travel in the site but it is difficult to travel on road.

Proposed cut and fill areas shall carefully planned. Volume of excavation increases significantly as the depth of the cut increases, and therefore usually tries to avoid excessive cut depths

Cut and Fill method is the common type been used for reducing level in a site. A detailed engineering soils analysis of a proposed cut and fill cross section is a crucial part of the reducing level design process. The results of the soils analysis are used to develop the design details of cut and fill sections such as depth and slope of the cut or fill.
