Printers
Definition:-
CCP-105.18 5
The speed of the printer is measured by pages
per minute (ppm) or by lines per minute (lpm) or
by characters per second (cps)
CCP-105.18 6
Printers are classified as:-
CCP-105.18 7
Serial Printers (impact printers)
CCP-105.18 8
One category of impact serial printers is based on
Dot Matrix and Daisy-Wheel technology
CCP-105.18 9
DOT MATRIX PRINTER
CCP-105.18 10
Dot Matrix Printer
Dot matrix printer is the most common types of
printer in use. It prints character by character
It prints out each letter or digit in the form of a
group of dots . That is why the printer is called a
dot matrix printer
The print quality of this printer is not very fine
and dot matrix printers are slow
CCP-105.18 11
Dot Matrix Printer
The print head comprises a matrix of tiny
needles, usually seven rows and five columns
Normally they can print at a speed of up to about
360 characters per second
Each character is formed in a 7*5 matrix as the
print head moves across the paper

Letter Quality Printers
CCP-105.18 13
Daisy Wheel Printer
A Daisy Wheel Printer is so called because the
print head consists of a daisy shaped wheel
which holds all the characters
The print head moves along the line and stops
where a character is to be printed
The character selected is brought to the print
position by the rotation of the daisy wheel
CCP-105.18 14
Daisy Wheel Printer
A hammer which is held at the print position
strikes the character to print
The advantage of this letter quality printer is the
excellent quality of the print can be produced by it

Laser Printer
CCP-105.18 23
Laser Printers
These are superior
They are very fast , easy to use and produce high
quality output
Laser printers operate at a speed of 8 to12 pages
per minute
These printers are used for fast printing in desk-top
publishing (DTP) systems
