Polyester is a chemically manufactured fiber formed by the reaction of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) with terepthalic acid
Polyester is quite strong with excellent resilience It is almost non-absorbent with a low moisture regain (0.2% to 0.8%) Although not affected by acids, polyester is susceptible to damage by strong bases
Polyester-cotton blend: Stain and wrinkle resistant (property of polyester) Comfortable and absorbent (property of cotton) Polyester-nylon blend: Strong and abraision resistant (property of nylon) Wrinkle resistant (property of polyester) Polyester-rayon blend: Resilient and durable (property of polyester) Absorbent and good drapability (property of rayon) Polyester-wool blend: Strong and durable (property of polyester) Good drapability and elasticity (property of wool)
Used in the manufacture of bedspreads, sheets, pillows, furniture, upholstery, carpets, curtains and wall coverings High tenacity and good durability makes polyester the choice of fabric for high stress outdoors use Polyester and its blends are used for the manufacture of formal suits, trousers, shirts, and skirts
