Drawing/Painting 1
This course introduces students to the elements of art and the principles of design with a focus on drawing and painting. Students learn the language of art critiquing in order to evaluate their own artwork and the works of others. Students learn basic rendering techniques to create depth in all medium/material and also learn to develop hand-eye coordination. Students use references from photos of celebrities, animals or themselves to create artwork that focuses on composition and proportion through the use of line, texture, and value. This course takes students from the basics of drawing and painting through finished work, utilizing a variety of media including pencil, pen, ink, charcoal, oil pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, and tempera paint. Pre-Art Academy
Your student will be experiencing a year program in which he/she will be working with a variety of different art materials. This is an accelerated art class designed especially for 8th grade students. The goals of the program are to strengthen the students drawing and painting ability and to continue to explore the different techniques used in working with materials. In addition, the student will be prepared for entry into the Academy of Animation and Digital Art, a specialized secondary program on the Mayfair campus. Your student will be experiencing a semester exploratory program in which he/she will be working with a variety of different art materials. The goals of the program are to introduce students to a variety of media and explore different techniques used in working with materials. In addition, we will discuss the history of each medium we work with, and look at artists who have created especially interesting works in each. The emphasis will be on exploring and experimenting while creating objects with artistic skill and craftsmanship. Your student will have gained insight into how artists think and work, what they work with, and why they choose the media they do. They will also have a working knowledge of the aesthetic elements of art and how to use them to create pleasing and lasting works of art. 7th Grade students will focus on multicultural art and will be aligned with the history of world civilizations.

Classroom Standards
Respect yourself, others, and our classroom. Be seated and prepared when the bell rings. Clean up your workplace at the end of the period and return materials to their storage area. Talk only when you have permission (especially during instruction). No food, drinks, or gum. Follow all other campus rules.
