We the members of the team Geo Challengers are greatly indebted to our Geography maam Mrs Debjani Lahiri for having such ideas for the students . This is the first time that we are making this project in computer . We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our parents who has helped us to prepare and present this project . This project on Tsunami has been very metecullously made taking every possible care to give brief and considerable information in every possible way . We hope our hard work and labour will be appreciated .

INTRODUCTION
TSUNAMI: JAPANESE WORD MEANING HARBOUR WAVE USED AS A SCIENTIFIC TERM FOR SEISMIC .WAVE S THAT CAN CAUSE CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE . TSUNAMI IS A BIG DISASTER CAUSED UNDER THE SEA IT IS USUALLY CALLED BY THE PEOPLE AS AN EARTHQUAKE .

HISTORYS FIFTH LARGEST EARTHQUAKE GIVE RISE TO TIDAL WAVES WASHING AWAY THOUSANDS .THIS DISASTER HIT THE LAND OF INDIA AND OTHER COUNTRIES OF ASIA ON 26 th DECEMBER 2004,CAUSING AGREAT DESTRUCTION TO MANY LIVES.THIS EARTHQUAKE STRUCK THE MAGNITUDE OF 8.9 TO THE SOUTH EAST COAST OF ASIA .

The epicarp of this disaster was near Sumatra and the destruction started when there was an earthquake inside the sea and the sea water got misbalanced because of this disaster,the land was shifted a little and air was filled into it . When the air escaped, the water was disturbed by the air and continuously huge waves struck the land causing a tremendous earthquake.

In the epicarp, the speed of water was about 1200 km/hr . But the speed reduced when it came in contact with the land.Indonesia is nearest country and it had been effected the most. It struck many countries like Indonesia ,Thailand , Sri Lanka , Malaysia ,India , Andaman and Nicobar islands etc . When it strike the surface ,it felt like earthquake . Huge waves crushed the houses and destroyed them situated near the coastal areas . Many states were suffering because of this disaster

. The reported deaths had crossed 2,00,000 in number . In India along the number of deaths has almost reached 15,000 .The worst hit places of India are Tamil Nadu ,Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar islands .The other countries which have been devasted by the Tsunami are Sri Lanka , Indonesia , Malasia , Maldives and Thailand . Sri Lanka and Indonesia are the worst hit places . A few measures have been undertaken to rescue the people struck in the Tsunami . There was a great chance of spreading of diseases which will lead to the loss of lives .

It is now been considered as the biggest Tsunami which ever has caused the greatest disaster washing away many small islands off the world map and leading to the extinct of certain remote tribes .The effects of this disasters was very bad many houses were broken down or washed away by the water.

CONCLUSION
MAN PROPOSES AND GOD DISPOSES this well known saying is now appearing to be true in front of us . After dealing with this project it is crystal clear that no how this disaster can be stopped . But by gaining proper knowledge of the facts and knowing the protective measures and taking proper care, the loss of life and property can be lowered .

Rumour always creates harm. Hence the media should be very precise announcing any such phenomenon . Following these measures , people can save themselves from such kind of disaster to some extent .
