PURSUE The basic meaning of this verb is "to pursue after" an enemy with the intent of overtaking and defeating him. In most of its occurrences radap is a military term . It first occurs in Gen 14:14, where it is reported that Abram mustered his men OT:318, men) and "pursued them [men who took his brother] unto Dan." A nuance of this verb is "to pursue" a defeated enemy with the intent of killing him: "And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus" Gen 14:15. (from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, Copyright 1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers.)

Gen 14:14-16
14 Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people. NKJV

radap be behind, follow after, pursue, persecute.
