Purpose: To authentically engage and provide parents, high school students and community the

tools to participate in an interactive study of the


PSC school proposals and become advocates of high quality public schools

Session 1: Using Data to Advocate for High Quality Schools

Introduces participants to PSC and important school


data

Session 2: Elements of a High Quality School


Builds on school data and engages participants in discussion and activities to identify key principles and priorities for their respective schools.

Session 3: Interactive School Plan Review Process Part I Preparing to Examine School Plans
Prepares participants to meet the PSC Applicant teams by examining the
informational school plans and preparing interview questions to share with the applicant teams.

Session 4: Interactive School Plan Review Process Part II A Conversation with PSC Applicant Teams
Engages participants in a moderated conversation with PSC Applicant

teams. Participants use the skills obtained as part of the Regional


Academies to discuss the PSC school plans with the applicant teams and share feedback for the Superintendents School Plan Review Process.

PSC 3.0 Includes 37 LAUSD Schools:
22 Focus Schools & 15 New Schools

PSC 3.0 Focus Schools & New Schools are in neighboring or the same neighborhoods, therefore:
All 37 schools have been grouped into Regions There are a total of 11 PSC 3.0 Regions (not aligned by LD) Ex: South East Region- South Gate
Host School Site: South Gate Middle School 250 Participants for the South Gate Region Break Into Small Groups of 30 persons per Classroom

Open meeting space Provide materials for sessions Coordinate translation support during session Oversee registration and check-in during sessions and maintain database of participant contact information. Assist with trouble shooting as needed Includes representatives from the United Way, LAUSD Parent Community Services Branch & the PSC Team

Observer
VISTA observers will monitor academy sessions and provide feedback to assess the Regional Academy logistics, including strengths and areas of improvement. Observe sessions Take notes and submit summary of observation notes to the Lead Organization.

Applicants may observe any of the sessions

While applicants will be observers during sessions 1 through 3, they will be asked to be active participants in session 4. Participant contact information will not be provided to teams without prior consent from the individual participants. Reports compiled from each session will be made available online at http://publicschoolchoice.lausd.net
