A reagent is a "substance or compound that is added to a system in order to bring about a chemical reaction It must be of sufficient purity for use in chemical analysis, chemical reactions or physical testing. Purity standards for reagents are set by organizations such as ASTM International.

Work in past on fc
The Folin-Ciocalteu(FC) Assay was developed in 1927 as a colorimetric assay for tyrosine.
Numerous investigators over the years reported apparent reactivity of FC reagent with nonphenolicsubstances Ikawaand co-workers in 2003 measured the reactivity of FC reagent towards dozens of nitrogenous compounds. Many had significant reactivity

FC Reagent
The FC reagent is a mixture containing sodium molybdate, sodium tungstate, and other reagents.
In the presence of phenols, it produces a blue color which absorbs at 765 nm. It is believed that the blue color is due to a complexedMo(V) species. The FC assay is used to measure phenoliccontent in plants. A modification of it, called the Folin-Lowry assay is used to measure total protein content of fluids.

10 g sodium tungstate + 2.5 g sodium molybdate in 70 ml water+ Add 5 ml 85% phosphoric acid and 10 ml concentrated hydrochloric acid. Reflux for 10 hr. Add 15 g lithium sulfate, 5 ml water and 1 drop bromine. Reflux for 15 min. Cool to room temperature and bring to 100 ml with water.1 Hexavalent phosphomolybdic/phosphotungstic acid complexes with the following structures are formed in solution.

spectrophotometric method for the determination of penicillins

A spectrophotometric method for the determination of penicillins (ampicillin, amoxycillin and carbenicillin) using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent (FC reagent) is described. The reaction mixture of penicillin and FC reagent (pH 2.25) was heated in a thermostated water bath (95 2C) and the resulting blue color due to the formation of heteropoly blues was detected spectrophotometrically at the corresponding max for these penicillins.

spectrophotometric determination of some nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents

for the spectrophotometric determination of some nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents like naproxen, oxyphenbutazone, mefenamic acid, indomethacin, and diclofenac sodium in pharmaceutical preparations is proposed. The method is based on the formation of blue complexes with FolinCiocalteu reagent.

Colorimetric Determination of Potassium by Folin-Ciocalteu Phenol Reagent

Alkaline solutions of cobalt salts, in presence of a trace of amino-acid (glycine or alanine), reduce the phosphomolybdic-phosphotungstic acid phenol reagent to a blue colour The intensity of the color is directly proportional to the amount of cobalt present, and hence, if potassium has been precipitated as cobaltinitrite, to the amount of potassium in the original solution.

Estimation of vitamin C using Folin phenol reagent

A new colorimetric technique for the estimation of ascorbic acid by using Folin phenol reagent has been developed. The absorption maximum of the color developed by the interaction of ascorbic acid with Folin reagent is 760 nm
