CHALLENGES
Behavioural reluctance Vast manpower and different work timings Enormous patient load DDUs infrastructure Lack of well designed and well developed user manual. Development of new and stable version of modules.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The idea of implementation of HIS should be well delivered and conceived by the users. The HIS product should cover maximum functionalities and should have flexibility of customization. Rigourous and continuous training. Setting up of local and centralized IT department.

A STUDY ON COMPUTER LITERACY LEVEL IN NURSES OF REGIONAL HOSPITAL, SOLAN

OBJECTIVE

To ascertain the level of computer literacy among nurses of District Hospital Solan, prior to implementation of HIS in order to determine the need of training required and hence develop a comprehensive training plan.

METHODOLOGY

STUDY DESIGN a quantitative study was conducted on a Sample Size of 25 nurses. The nurses were selected randomly based on there availability to answer the questions, the ranged within the age group of 30- 40 years. AREA OF STUDY the study was conducted in REGIONAL HOSPITAL, SOLAN in HIMACHAL PRADESH while performing Requirement Analysis for Implementation of HIS by HISP- INDIA in the same.

TOOLS OF DATA COLLECTION a

closed ended questionnaire was designed consisting of 15 questions aimed at detemining knowledge of Basic computer operation and function Word processing skills Internet & Web skills Multimedia & Email skills The responses thus collected were fed on a excel sheet and graphs

OBSERVATION & ANALYSIS

RESULT From the study it comes out that majority of the nurses have minimal computer knowledge in basic functionalities, world processing skills, internet and web skill as well as email skills. Thus, there is great need of training of nurses before going for HIS implementation as computer illiteracy is one of the major reason for reluctance in end users.

LIMITATIONS As the study was conducted in a time period of 3 days, it was not possible to evaluate it extensively. As the study was performed only in 1 Hospital so the results cannot be generalized. As the nurses were highly occupied in their work, it was difficult to get proper and willful response from them

RECOMENDATIONS

It is important to infuse a level of understanding and motivation in the users first by briefing them about the virtual change to occur in future. A training design has to be structured laying focus on basic computer knowledge initially. As nurses have a hectic schedule, training in 2 shifts morning and evening should be planned when the workload is less. Individual attention as well as recognizing early learners, who can motivate others, would help in achieving successful training objective. A session on working knowledge of English language.
