g to a persons life. It represents a organised path taken by an individual across time and space.

CAREER PLANNING: Career Planning is the system process by which one selects career goals and the path to these goals. It is a managerial technique for mapping out the entire career of young employees, it requires discovery, development, planned employment and reemployment of talents.

Characteristics of Career Planning: (i) Process of developing human resources. (ii) Managing people, to obtain optimum results. (iii) Career Planning is a continuous process due to an ever changing environment.

Characteristics of Career Planning: iv. Responsibility of an organisation to provide guidance and counseling to its employees in planning their careers and in developing and utilizing their knowledge. v. Basic aim of Career Planning is integration of individual and organizational needs.

Objectives of Career Planning: (i) To attract and retain the right type of persons in the organization. (ii) To map out careers of employees suitable to their ability, and their willingness to be trained and developed for highest positions.

CAREER COUNSELING: Career Planning may require advising and guiding employees in their possible career paths and the direction in which they ought to be heading. Such advising and heading is called career counseling.

Objectives of Career Counseling: i. To provide guidelines that help an individual to understand himself more clearly and develop his own thinking and outlook. ii. To help individuals achieve and enjoy greater personal satisfaction and pleasure.
