m When using technology during pre-

production the key decisions I faced was

many down to researching, when I wanted
information about films relating to film4 I
had to choose what websites were more
reliable, I came down to the conclusion of
websites such as imdb to combat my
research into British social realism films.
m In the production stage the decisions I had
to face was what type of camera used, HD
or Standard definition. We chose SD
because the low quality connotes the
harshness of the production which relates
to the conventions of a British social
realism.
m In the post production stage the key
decision I faced was what type of software
that will be used to make the music, I had
to choose between Garage Band which
has a library of synths that you can put
together to create your own piece of
music, or go onto websites which lets
people download uncopyrighted music.
 it poles
This was successful because it enabled me to look at
poles which are taken after certain films so films can
realise what audience they are appealing too. This bit of
technology was used for research into our target
audience and find out what films appeal to age group
such as 16-24 year olds.
IMDb
This is a website which has a huge data base of
information about films, i used this to research into
film4 and how their films were distributed and the
budgets of certain British social realism films.
ISOHUNT
This is a torrent which enables you to stream footage
live, I used this to watch certain films such as ͚This Is
ngland͛ for my research into British social realism.
YouTube
This also streams footage which enabled me to watch
opening sequences to films an e ample of a film I
watched was the opening two minutes of ͚Lock Stock
and Two Smocking Barrels͛ I also used this site to
upload my videos an e ample of this would be the
Animatic script.
Artofthetitle
This has a big database of most films staring credits, I
used this to research how most films had their opening
credits and what typography was used to suit the genre
of the film.
Sribd
This is a site were you can upload documents such as
PowerPoint's which can be shared, I used this to upload
my research of British social realist films
Panasonic NV-GS180 2.3 MGA PIXL
This is used to capture footage, we used this
to film our production, it did have bad
quality but it gave a grainy effect which is
conventional for a British social realism film.
Panasonic Mini DV
This tape which stores the footage that you
have recorded, that was how it was used in
our production. We did have difficulty using
this because we found it hard to rewind the
footage to the beginning and we actually lost
film from it.
Steady Cam
This is a type of equipment which lets you
hold the video camera steadily, it is attached
to the camera, it is meant to stop the
camcorder from shaking I had little success
with this, due to it not really working e.g.
Not keeping the camera still .
YouTube
I used YouTube to upload my production log
videos, I also used it in the post production
stage to upload my two minute opening
sequence onto blogger.
iMovie
This is software which enables you to edit, add
effects to your film. This was used when editing. I
found this very easy to use and understand there
was not much difficulty in using this, but there was
a part which was unsuccessful that was when we
add typography it would not show up on playback.
Garageband
Garage Band which has a library of synths that you
can put together to create your own piece of
music. This was meant for me to make a piece of
music but I chose not to due to it being time
consuming.
FreeMusic.com
This is a website which lets you download
uncopyrighted music, this was used for my
production we did find some good music that could
relate to the mood of the film but I did think that
thee wasn͛t enough to choose from and some of
the songs were very much of low quality.
Adobe Photoshop CS5
This software is used to create graphics and moving
animations, I used this to create my typography,
the production logo and the title.
I found this difficult to use due to there being to
many symbols and different effects to choose from
I also found it frustrating when I uploaded the
graphics onto iMovie it was resized and cut down
but this was probably down to a fault from iMovie.
m From the process of constructing this product I
have learnt a lot about technology, the
technology I used in the pre-production stage
taught me how to go about finding my research
and I know how to find information about a film,
it also taught me that the internet plays a big
part in research for films. An e ample of this
would be the website IDMb.
m From using technology in my production stage I
learnt how to set my equipment up for
appropriate angles. I also learnt that the tape we
was using had to be winded to were it was last
filmed otherwise it would film over our past
footage.
m From using technology in my post production
stage I learnt a lot. From using Photoshop I
learnt how to apply effects which made certain
graphics look professional, the main tools I
learnt to use was the gradient tool and the
opacity of a layer. Another bit of technology I
learnt a lot from was the iMovie application,
during making this product I leant how to effects
such as fades between cuts and how to
configure the hue which was used on my
flashback sequence, I also learnt how to overlay
audio of someone speaking while playing
footage over it, this was also used in my
flashback sequence.
m Overall constructing this product has taught me
a lot about technology , to researching and
practical work on the mac using software such
as iMovie and Photoshop.
