National Rural Health

Mission
 The(NRHM) ( Health
National Rural 2005-2012 ) is a
Mission (NRHM)
government scheme that aims at providing
valuable healthcare services to rural households
all over the country.
 It specially focuses on the 18 States of Arunachal
Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal
Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir,
Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh,
Nagaland, Orissa, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura,
Uttarkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
GOALS
 Reduction in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and
Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR)

 Universal access to public health services such as


Women’s health, child health, water, sanitation &
hygiene, immunization, and Nutrition

 Prevention and control of communicable and non-


communicable diseases, including locally endemic
diseases

 Revitalize local health traditions and mainstream


AYUSH
STRATEGIES
 Train and enhance capacity of Panchayati Raj
Institutions (PRIs) to own, control and manage
public health services

 Promote access to improved healthcare at


household level through the female health activist
(ASHA)

 Promotion of Public Private Partnerships for


achieving public health goals
PLAN OF ACTION
 Every village/large habitat will have a female
Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) -
chosen by and accountable to the panchayat- to
act as the interface between the community and
the public health system

 She will facilitate preparation and


implementation of the Village Health Plan along
with Anganwadi worker, ANM, functionaries of
other Departments, and Self Help Group
members, under the leadership of the Village
Health Committee of the Panchayat
OUTCOMES
 Infant Mortality Rate reduced to 30/1000 live
births
 Maternal Mortality Ratio reduced to 100/100,000
 Malaria mortality reduction rate – 50% upto
2010, additional 10% by 2012
 Dengue mortality reduction rate: 50% by 2010
and sustaining at that level until 2012
 Filaria/Microfilaria reduction rate: 70% by 2010,
80% by 2012 and elimination by 2015
Janani Suraksha Yojana
(JSY)
 Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) under the overall
umbrella of National Rural Health Mission
(NRHM) is being proposed by way of modifying
the existing National Maternity Benefit Scheme
(NMBS). The JSY would be a 100% centrally
sponsored scheme.

Vision:-
 To reduce over all maternal mortality ratio and
infant mortality rate, and
 To increase institutional deliveries in BPL
families
Janani Suraksha Yojana
(JSY)
Target Group:-
All pregnant women belonging to the below
poverty line (BPL) households and
 Of the age of 19 years or above
 Up to two live births
Strategy:-
 Early registration of the beneficiaries with the
help of the village level health workers like ASHA
or an equivalent worker
 Providing atleast three antenatal care, and post
delivery visits
National Urban Health Mission
(NUHM)
 The NUHM will meet health needs of the urban
poor, particularly the slum dwellers by making
available to them essential primary health care
services

NUHM would ensure the following:


 Resources for addressing the health problems in
urban areas, especially among urban poor
 Need based city specific urban health care system
to meet the diverse health needs of the urban poor
and other vulnerable sections
National Urban Health Mission
(NUHM)
 Framework for partnerships with NGOs,
charitable hospitals, and other stakeholders
 NUHM would cover all cities with a
population of more than 100000. It would
cover slum dwellers; other marginalized
urban dwellers like rickshaw pullers, street
vendors, railway and bus station coolies,
homeless people, street children,
construction site workers, who may be in
slums or on sites
