Where is its birthplace

• Jazz was born in the southern city of
New Orleans in the late 19th century
and early 20th century. At the begin
ning of the 19th century, the French
ruled New Orleans. Due to loose ma
nagement, many  African blacks
fled to New Orleans from the slaves
of the American  South to enjoy th
e identity of  "free black". New O
rleans has  always adopted a mor
e tolerant  attitude towards blacks,
so that  jazz has been fully brewe

, and  has developed rapidly.
Where is it developed

Musical expression
• 1. 、 Performance: jazz is usually played
primarily as an instrumental instrument. It
can be played as a solo, ensemble, small
band, or as a large orchestra.

• 2 、 Performance style : jazz emphasizes

improvisation, usually after the presentation
of the theme, in accordance with the
characteristics of the jazz style, the music
improvisation and variations. This
improvisation is restricted by the progression
of the harmony and the structure of the
chord.
Form of jazz

• Jazz has flourished in many forms, from its roots in the blues and
Ragtime to New Orleans through Dixieland, swing, mainstream,
bebop, modern, free and electronic.
Jazz
How is it performed?
Jazz, a musical form that originated in
Africa. In less than a century, this distinctly
American form of music, called jazz, has
grown from an obscure, folksy form of music
to the most important art produced in the
United States.
Five characteristics of jazz: Improvisation
or singing;Use the blues scale; The sheer
complexity of jazz rhythms;Unique jazz
chords;Unique use of timbre.

The main styles of jazz are:

New Orleans jazz, swing, bebop, cold jazz,
free jazz, Latin jazz, fusion jazz, etc
Today Jazz is heard and played in almost every corner of the
world, and jazz thrives in many forms, from its roots in the blues
and Ragtime to New Orleans through Dixieland, swing,
mainstream, bebop, modern, free and electronic. It is amazing not
that jazz has come in so many forms, but that each of them is so
important and has retained its own character and charm. If you
want to enjoy all kinds of jazz and have all the fun, you have to
have an open mind and listen to it.
The popularity of j
azz
• Jazz is the foundation of pop music, which does not mean that jazz element
s must be used or appeared in all pop music. Instead, it means to take jazz t
raining as a means to cultivate the foundation of music, so as to obtain the
fluency of pop music vocabulary more scientifically and effectively, that is, t
he so-called sense of music. This is why jazz accounts for a large proportion
of pop music teaching in most music schools in the world, such as Berkeley.
In fact, jazz is infiltrating into all kinds of music, whether it is pop
music, some electronic music, and even some works with the so-c
alled Chinese style, are more or less using some jazz concepts or w
orks. As our predecessors said, jazz is not only a big tree, but also a
piece of soil that can provide nutrients for other forms of music.
WHY IS IT NOT POPULAR NOWADAYS
?
Pure jazz and pop music
• Pop music is mainstream music, which means music that is acceptable to the public...
In China, jazz is not popular music.

• There are two kinds of jazz in today's music: pure jazz and popular music with jazz
elements. For pure jazz: if it is in China, it has never been popular, even now it is
still a small number of people. It is not clear whether foreign music is popular or
not, but jazz education abroad has become the foundation of music education. High sc
hool and college student bands are everywhere.Popular music with jazz elements, this
is not called jazz. There is jazz in almost every style of music.

• Pop music is a big part of it And jazz has a certain specializationNot everyone can
appreciate it. This limits the number of people who appreciate it.
Different cultures, different environments
• After all, it is the music that comes from abroad. We don't have this kind of enviro
nment. There are cultural differences. And for a long time, we didn't have a ballroo
m for the development of jazz, and the folk didn't support individual musicians. The
n it opened and was hit by pop music. Even at present, there is little jazz in China
, and there are few singers from Hong Kong and Taiwan who sing jazz.
Finally, I want to say something
• Jazz is breaking into all kinds of music, whether it is pop music, some electronic m
usic, or even some so-called Chinese music, it is more or less using some jazz conce
pts or practices. Jazz is not just a tree, it is a soil that can nourish other forms
of music.
