even bigger
problem
Before infants can begin to map words onto
objects in the world, they must determine which
sound sequences are words. To do so, infants must
uncover at least some of the units that belong to

their native language from a largely continuous
stream of sounds in which words are seldom
surrounded by pauses. Despite the difficulty of
this reverse-engineering problem, infants
successfully segment words from fluent speech
from ≈7 months of age.
Previously Describe one behavior change you want to see
happen on campus. What are people doing
now? What should they be doing? Propose
(describe) a “nudge” a “boost” or technology
that provides feedback that would encourage
people to make that behavior change.

review!
Break up into groups, pick a technology and review it together, creating a
short presentation at the end of the class to 1) describe the app, 2)
analyze how it works from a learning perspective, and 3) recommend or
not recommend it for use with some rationale as to why.

The purpose of this activity: Review & assess!

Do you understand the theories we’ve discussed so far? Can you apply
them to evaluate a technology?
Review tips Describe the app ::
Who is the intended user?
What does the app advertise itself as doing?
How do you use the app?
When / where do you use it?
Review tips Learning ::
What do players learn from the app?
What associations are developed?
What role does the technology play in the learned
behavioral change?
Review tips Recommendation ::
Any problems with the app? Ethical or otherwise?
Any particular benefits of the app?
Does the app do learning well? What could be
changed to make it better?
