Mindoro
• The 7th largest island of the Philippines
• The indigenous people of Mindoro are called Mangyans
• Malasimbo Festival upholds sustain eco cultural development
and the preservation of the indigeneous culture and heritage of
the mangyan trives of Mindoro
Two kinds of Mangyans Basket
1. Larayas basket – it is hexagonal household basket made in small sizes from 18-20 cm
in diameter

2. Hanunoo basket – are small, fine and leather like in texture with padakus design or
cross pattern and the base of the basket is square but the mouth is round
Marinduque
• Moriones Festival also plays prominent role in Marinduque’s culture
• it is held on Holy week on the island of Marinduque, Philippines. The “Moriones “
are men and women wearing costumes and mask replicating the garb of biblical
roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks.
Arts and Crafts in Marinduque
• Barangay residents learn the art of ceramics and pottery making
Romblon
- Known as the marble country of the Philippines
- Romblomanon comes from the Visayas “Domblon” or “Lamyon” which means
“sitting”
- It refers to the people and language of Romblon, an island group of mainland
southern Luzon
Romblon Basket are the source of aesthetic pride
and it is the major industry in Romblon

Materials for making Romblon basket


1. Kokolongkoy vine- a plant that has very big
stems and that grows along the ground or up
2. Nito vine- use for durable covered market
baskets and bowls of various sizes
3. Buri Strips- Soft, narrow strips of leaf are
intricately woven into baskets, purses, pen holders
and other small containers
Palawan
-Known for its largest marine habitat
-Rich in cultural and natural diversity
Arts and craft of Palawan
1. Salugin- Local Material: Wood and Rattan
2. Ambalad- woven rattan waistband
3. Woven Baskets- a basket made of
wickerwork. basket, handbasket - a container
that is usually woven and has handles
Manungul Jar
-It is considered as one of the precious
artifact in the Philippines
-It serves as container for secondary burial
of the deceased love ones.
Puerto Princesa Underground River
– the longest underground river in the world and
an important site ecoglogical conservation and
awareness.
-January 28 2012 officially confirmed that PPUR
recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of Nature

The Ati-Atihan Festival- is a Philippine festival held annually in January in
honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child or Infant Jesus) in several towns of the
province of Aklan, Panay Island. The biggest celebration is held during the
third Sunday of January in the town of Kalibo, the province's capital.
Arts and Crafts of Panay
Patadyong - important industry in Iloilo, wrap
around piece of cloth worn by women features
linear and geometric designs.

Piña Weaving - is an age-old tradition in Aklan,


the leading manufacturer of pina cloth in the
country

Capiz Shell - known for the brilliant Capiz shell


produced here, it is used in making windows,
lanterns, decorations, vases, etc.
Negros Island
 Negros Island was first called Buglas

 The weaving tradition of the Negrenses include the


production of roofing material, walls, hats and
baskets.

 The Negrenses also weave fabric from abaca twine


and indigenous plants similar to banana knows as
sinamay
Masskara Festival
 “City of smiles”
 An annual festival with highlights held every fourth Sunday of October in Bacolod,
Philippines.
 Most spectacular display of colors, beauty, and culture of Negrenses
 Masskara comes from two words, “Mass” meaning crowd and “Cara” which means face.

Sinamay Weaving
- made from abaca twine and indigenous plants similar to banana
- It is a world class industry
