CONSUME
R HEALTH
 CONSUMER HEALTH - It is the study of
products and services that have an effect on
health and decisions on how to spend time
and money.

CONSUMER
An individual or person who purchases or
uses goods and services and who makes
choice on how much to spend.
CONSUMER GOODS & PRODUCTS
Refer to the clothes we wear, food we eat,
over-the-counter drugs, shelter, and others
we consume.

CONSUMER SERVICES
It include those provided by medical
professionals like doctors, dentists, and other
work-related activities.
CONSUMER HEALTH PROTECTION – is defined
as safeguarding the buying public from
fraudulent, misleading, and inferior
goods and services.

Organizations that protect Consumer:


Food and Drug Administration(FDA) - enforces laws
to prevent distribution of misbranded or
adulterated foods, drugs, and cosmetics.

Deposit Insurance Corporation - responsible in


insuring bank accounts, examines member banks,
and corrects unsound banking method, and
overseas trust fund abuse cases.
Bureau of Posts - responsible for enforcing laws
against mail fraud and misuse of mails and
handles problems regarding money orders, non
delivery, and damage in transit.

Civil Aeronautics Board - responsible for the


regulation of airline ticket prices, controls unfair
advertising for air travel, and handles complains.

National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) -


responsible for the inspection of meat, poultry,
and their products, approves label prior to use,
and set grade standards for eggs.
Types of Consumer
 INTELLIGENT CONSUMER, you prioritize
your needs and limit your purchase on your
ability to pay.
 SPENDTHRIFT CONSUMER, you lavish your
self of anything or everything that indicates
luxury.
 BARGAIN ADDICT, you have an obsession for
all for all types of bargain sale and become of
easy prey to the sales traps by deceitful
traders.
 PANIC BUYER, you are easily agitated by rumours
of rising prices, product shortages, and political
disorders and tends to hoard unreasonable
quantity of household supplies and thereby
contributes to price increase and artificial
shortages.
 IMPULSIVE BUYER, you buy anything that you
think you need or like and regret it afterwards.
Most especially you are tempted by special offers
and misleading advertisements.
 WASTEFUL CONSUMER, you have the habit of
leaving lights on, ignoring leaking faucets, buying
more than enough food that you can’t consume
and throwing away good food afterwards.

Consumer Responsibilities
 Be more alert and questioning about the use of, price
and quality of goods and services.
 Assert our selves and act to ensure that we get a fair
deal.
 Be aware of the impact of our consumption on other
citizen whether in local, national, or international
community.
 Understand environmental consequences of our
consumption.
 Organize together as consumer to develop the
strength and influences to promote and protect our
interest.
Consumer Code of the Philippines

 It was drafted in 1975 by the University of the


Philippines, Law Center in Diliman, Quezon
City
 This code contains policies to protect
consumers from health hazards and promote
safety to the public users of commodities sold
in the markets.
Policies of the Consumer Code
 Prevent deceptive and unfair practices by
manufacturers of goods, drugs, and other
products.
 Regulate the prescription and dispensation of
drugs and services.
 Produce quality products and safety standards.
 Avoid misleading advertising and restrictive
trade practices.
 Provide information and education to the
public consumer.

 - Provisioned the creation of Philippine
Institute of Traditional and Alternative
Healthcare (PITAHC) , which works
closely with the Department of Health
Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine views diseases as


a manifestation of an alteration in the
processes by which the body naturally
heals itself.
 Offers a wide range of natural practices
including herbal medicine acupuncture,
acupressure, nutritional therapy, and
ventossa cupping massage therapy
Accupressure- Uses the same technique as that of
accupunture, only that it does not use needles,
only hands are used to apply pressure on certain
points of the body
Accupressure - Focuses on treating
specific disorders through
massaging the soles of the feet
Accupuncture - Form of energy medicine where long
thin needles are inserted to specific parts of the
body to affect the energy flow and believed to
treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions
Ventosa cupping massage - Procedure done by placing
glasses that have flames from burning cotton, on specific
points in the body, and is believed to relieve muscle and
joint pains

Department of Health
1.Akapulco = for ringworm and other skin infections
2. Ampalaya = for diabetic patients
3. Bawang = for blood pressure control
4. Lagundi = for cough and asthma
5. Niyog-niyogan = for intestinal worms
6. Bayabas = use as antiseptic to disinfect wounds.
Use also for tooth decay, gum infection and mouth
wash.
7. Sambong = for urinary stones
8. Tsaang gubat = for mouth wash
9. Pansit-pansitan = for arthritis
10. Yerba-buena = for the relief of body pains
