PRE-ACTIVITY
◍ Classroom Group Mini-debate (5-10 min.)
◍ The class will be divided into two
groups.
◍ Each group will draw lots to determine
whose group will be the pro and who
will be the con.

◍ The battle will involve one issue or
question only.
◍ Two minutes will be given first to the
pro team for their answer to the
question.
◍ Two minutes will follow for the
interpolation with the opposing team.

◍ Then, two minutes will be given for the

◍ Only one speaker at a time is allowed.

validity of your claims, as well as to
address the counterclaims to show that

Your introduction should lead up to
a thesis that organizes the rest of
your paper. There are three
advantages to leading with the
thesis:

1. The audience knows where you stand.
2. The thesis is located in the two
strongest places, first and last.
3. It is the most common form of
academic argument used.
