MANAGEMENT OF CAREER PATHWAYS OF YOUNG

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS: CHALLENGES AND

SUCCESS STORIES

ANTONIO FEDILINO
Master of Arts in Education
Major in Educational Management
Rationale/Background of the Study

 Career pathing or career development is one of the

practices that has to be given effective and efficient
implementation (Mendoza, 2009). This is because,
people are the most important asset of the organization.
 In the Department of Education, there are many young
teachers and professionals who realized at an early time
that their pathways lead to administrative functions.
 However, before they fully became school heads or gain
other administrative positions, there are many
challenges they encountered and overcome.
Rationale/Background of the Study
 Howe and Strauss (2010) are of the opinion that
perhaps no generation has been saddled with more
labels, clichés and stereotypes than the very large
cohort of professionals who have entered the
workforce since the turn of the 21st century.
 The so-called millennials are different than the
generations that preceded them; a new generation of
people that could be described by a common set of
traits based on the times and manner in which they
were raised.
Rationale/Background of the Study

 It supports the researcher's rationale of conducting the

investigation believing that the young administrators are
the millennial ones characterized with the increasing
impact of technology, delays in making “adult
commitments”, changing gender roles, changing nature of
careers, and changing expectations about work (De Howe
& De Vos, 2010).
 The study may prove in agreement or in contrast with the
assertion and findings of previous researchers about the
millennial generation.
Rationale/Background of the Study

 At the top of it, the study is an attempt to describe the

lived experiences of selected young administrators in
Schools Division of Marinduque and how their success
stories may be made basis for career management of entry
level and lower level teaching professionals who wish to
advance to higher levels of their career ladders.
 Another complication which the study may answer is the
shifting of young professionals from curriculum to
governance area and vice versa and what their motivations
are to transfer from one career path to another.
Statement of the Problem
1. What is the profile of the young school administrators in terms
of the following:
1.1 age;
1.2 gender;
1.3 civil status;
1.4 highest educational attainment;
1.5 plantilla position;
1.5 length of years as classroom teacher (before being an
administrator);
1.6 length of years as young administrators; and
1.7 geographical location of the work?
Statement of the Problem

2. How do young school administrators manage their career

pathways in relation to the following:
2.1. various roles in school (leader, manager, and school
head);
2.2 teachers and colleagues;
2.3 external stakeholders; and
2.4. lived experiences?
Statement of the Problem

3. What are the challenges encountered by the young school

administrators in managing career pathways in relation to:
3.1 various roles in school (leader, manager, and school
head);
3.2 teachers and colleagues;
3.3 external stakeholders; and
3.4. lived experiences?
Statement of the Problem

4. Is there a significant relationship between the profile

and the management of career pathing of the young
administrators?
5. Is there a significant relationship between the profile
and the challenges encountered in relation to the
management of career pathing?
6. What are the success stories of the young school
administrators based on their management of career path
and challenges encountered?
 7. What program can be proposed as output of the study?
