GAOL
DEFINITION OF CORRUPTION
Corruption is directly action or
indirectly action by personal or
collective to loss organization or
state and can enrich personal or
collective interest.
HISTORY OF CORRUPTION IN INDONESIA
corruption in Indonesia has been entrenched for a
long time, before and after independence, in the old
order era, the new order era, and continued until
the reform era. Various attempts have been made
to eradicate corruption, but the results are still far
from the fire. Corruption periodization in Indonesia
can generally be divided into two, namely the pre-
independence and post-independence periods.
"Cultures of corruption" are relentless
because they are driven by motives of power,
wealth and women. Seizure of power in the
Kingdom of Singosari (up to seven
descendants take revenge to fight over power:
Anusopati-Tohjoyo-Ranggawuni-Mahesa
Wongateleng and so on), Majapahit (Kuti,
Narnbi, Suro and others) revenge, Demak
(Joko Tingkir with Haryo Penangsang), Banten
(Sultan Haji seizes the throne from his father,
Sultan Ageng Tirtoyoso)
This culture which is very closed and full of
"fidelity" also fosters a "culture of corruption" in
the archipelago. Not infrequently the courtiers
also do "corrupt" in taking "tribute" (tax) from the
people who will be submitted to Demang
(Lurah) then by Demang will be handed over to
Tumenggung. Abdi dalem in Katemenggungan
at the district or provincial level also corrupt
assets that will be handed over to the King or
Sultan.
The habit of taking "tribute" from the
small people carried out by the King of
Java was imitated by the Dutch when
they ruled the archipelago (1800-1942)
minus the British Age (1811-1816). As a
result of this policy many people's
resistance against the Dutch occurred.
For example, the Diponegoro resistance
(1825-1830), Imam Bonjol (1821-1837),
Aceh (1873-1904) and others.
