1.ABSTRACT
3 RC design code specify the design requirements and constraints that must be satisfied and
define the properties of the Rc without conducting enough experiment. Artificial neural net-
work is an information processing model that is inspired by the way biological nervous
system. And it is a versatile modeling tool capable of making predictions of values that are
difficult to obtain in numerical analysis. There is an incompatibility between the concepts
underlying current code specifications and the fundamental concrete properties.

The goal of this project is assessing the accuracy of the methods adopted by some of the
most widely used codes of practice for the design of reinforced concrete structures to provide
predictions concerning load-carrying capacity in agreement with their experimentally
established counterparts. A comparative study will carry between the available experimental
data and the predictions obtained from (1) the design codes considered, (2) a published
alternative method (3) artificial neural networks that calibrated based on the available test
data.

Finally, reducing the incompatibility between the concepts underlying

the development of the design methods and the fundamental material
properties of concrete improves the effectiveness of these methods to a
degree that calibration may eventually become unnecessary.

2.INTRODUCTION

Design Code specifications for the design of reinforced concrete
structures (RC) is incompatible with fundamental concrete
properties such as post-peak stress–strain characteristics,
mechanism of crack extension, and sensitivity of strength and
deformation characteristics to the presence of small confinement
stresses (Kotsovos,2015).
Consequently, the need of calibrating these specifications with
experimental data describing the behavior of RC beam/column
elements will increasing complexity of the code-adopted design
formulae. compliance with the fundamental concrete properties will
lead to the development of alternative design methods.
6 Cont…..
 This research will focuses on comparing the values of load-
carrying capacity predicted by the design codes with those
obtained through the use of a purely empirical (soft computing)
method that employs artificial neural networks (ANNs) capable
of providing predictions concerning load-carrying capacity that
correlate closely to the available test data and evaluating the
shear design specifications of some of the most widely adopted
codes of practice.
7 3.Objective

General objectives
 The research is aimed to assessing the accuracy of the methods
adopted codes of practice for the design of reinforced concrete
structures.
Specific objectives
 To compare experimental data and the predictions obtained from the
design codes considered
 To compare experimental data and a published alternative method (the
compressive force path method),
 To compare experimental data and artificial neural networks
8 4. Scope of the study

The complete work of the project is divided in to several stages.

This involve on
experimental information on RC structural response at ULS,
study of basic concepts and theories reliable to RC design
code,
study of various methods and artificial neural networks.

5.Literature Review
Prior studies have identified many benefits of artificial neural network. These benefits
include,
 a powerful tool for predicting the shear strength of reinforced concrete beams( Cladera A &
Mari AR,2004),
 accurately model the complex and nonlinear relationship among parameters of physical
phenomenon such as those affecting the shear strength of rectangular R/C beams(Abdalla et
al.,2007),
 assessing the reliability of RC code predictions (Ahmad A et al.,2016),
 successfully predict the shear strengths of the test data within the range of input parameters
being investigated (Mansour MY et al.,2004).
 Ultimately, artificial neural network also has advantageous which provide related values to
the experiment results with high accuracy and short period of time.
 Conceptually, this study will be raise how much the RC design codes are incomputable to the
fundamental properties of the material.
10 6. Statement of the Problem
As mentioned above Code specifications for the design of
reinforced concrete structures (RC) is incompatible with
fundamental concrete properties.
so, it is more advantageous to assessing the accuracy of RC
design code predictions using the artificial neural networks
which correlate closely to the available test data.
11 7.Materials and Methods
The materials to be used in the research are
cement,
fine aggregate
water, and
reinforced bars.
 There may be same different design code methods,
experiments and same soft-wares And the accuracy of the
RC design code prediction is assessing using artificial
neural network.
12 8.Anticipated results

 The accuracy of the predictions of the RC design methods considered

will assess primarily against the available test data.
 The ANNs developed will successfully provide predictions to their
experimentally established counterparts.
 There will be a good correlation between the available test data and
the predictions of the ANNs.
