FORECASTING

Reported by:
Franze Beth I. Samson
• Usually starts as historical performance which is then
reviewed and adjusted based upon anticipated events

• Can be extremely time-consuming, expensive, and risky

• Should not only consider the company, but also the

customers and stakeholders
SET THE VISION
• Clearly defined and measurable objectives

• Helps identify what the company needs to learn

• Helps to start the process and convince the stakeholders

• Must ensure that employees understand the need for

change and invest in a vision for the future
ASSEMBLE THE TEAM
• Consists of internal employees, consultants, or a mix of
both

• Effective BPR team has representatives from top

management, the area that the process addresses,
information technology, finance, and end process users
group

• 5 roles that comprises the BPR team:

• Leader
• Process owner
• Reengineering team

DETERMINE THE PROCESS

• Requires a comprehensive study of the company itself

• Reviews and analyzes current performance of the processes,

rooting out weaknesses and non-value-add tasks, while
asking what each process is trying to accomplish

• Hammer and Champy discourage benchmarking because it

can restrict innovative thinking
REDESIGN
• Not only making the old processes better but completely
redesigning how they are performed

• Figuring out what and how to apply the reengineering

effort

• The redesign would look for ways to:

• Reduce the number of handoffs
• Centralize the data
• Decrease the number of delays
• Release resource quicker
• Combine related activities
INCLUDE THE
WHOLE COMPANY

• Review the other portions of the company that will evolve

because of changes

• Continued communication about the reengineering process

itself, result, and the employees’ part in it

• Reinforcing the reengineering method through

performance incentives
