• Should not only consider the company, but also the
customers and stakeholders SET THE VISION • Clearly defined and measurable objectives
• Helps identify what the company needs to learn
• Helps to start the process and convince the stakeholders
• Must ensure that employees understand the need for
change and invest in a vision for the future ASSEMBLE THE TEAM • Consists of internal employees, consultants, or a mix of both
• Effective BPR team has representatives from top
management, the area that the process addresses, information technology, finance, and end process users group
• 5 roles that comprises the BPR team:
• Leader • Process owner • Reengineering team • DETERMINE THE PROCESS
• Requires a comprehensive study of the company itself
• Reviews and analyzes current performance of the processes,
rooting out weaknesses and non-value-add tasks, while asking what each process is trying to accomplish
• Hammer and Champy discourage benchmarking because it
can restrict innovative thinking REDESIGN • Not only making the old processes better but completely redesigning how they are performed
• Figuring out what and how to apply the reengineering
effort
• The redesign would look for ways to:
• Reduce the number of handoffs • Centralize the data • Decrease the number of delays • Release resource quicker • Combine related activities INCLUDE THE WHOLE COMPANY
• Review the other portions of the company that will evolve
because of changes
• Continued communication about the reengineering process
itself, result, and the employees’ part in it
• Reinforcing the reengineering method through
