DATA FILTERING
• Data filtering is the process of choosing a smaller part
of a data set and utilizing that subset for the purpose
of viewing/analysis. In most cases, filtering is temporary,
I.e., the complete data set is kept but only a specific part
of it is used for calculation. Filtering requires a specific
rule or logic that is used to identify the cases to
include in the analysis. The term filtering can also be
referred to as the subsetting/drill-down of data.
USES OF FILTERS

• 1) Look at results for a specified period of time.


• 2) Calculate the results for particular groups
of interest.
• 3) Exclude erroneous or "bad" observations from
an analysis.
• 4) Train and validate statistical models.
FILTERING DATA (COMPLEX CRITERION
ADVANCED FILTER)
• In Microsoft Excel, an advanced filter is used to
create a list of unique, or to extract specified
items to a new worksheet. Complex criterion can
be used with an advanced filter, especially in
situations where a simple data filter can’t carry
out the particular task.
