be more deeply aware of search techniques
that will give results that are useful for your
academic and chosen career.

only search engine
in the web?
(later we will tackle some alternative search engines)
•Contextualize, meaning to study and review.
•Contextual online search is a form of optimizing web- based search
results based on context provided. In undergoing online learning we
might want to consider the rules and regulations provided by the
source owners. For the best result of online researching it’s
important to get to know the steps and skills on fetching and
gathering data.
•Online search is the process of interactively searching for and
retrieving requested information via a computer from databases
that are online. (Wikipedia)
•RESEARCH SKILL Research skills can be anything from looking at
competitors and seeing what they do well to producing a written
report on how your department could work better. Doing research
in the world of work is all about stepping back from your day-to-day
work and looking at ways you can improve.

SIX STRATEGIES THAT CAN HELP ONLINE STUDENTS
PRODUCE STRONGER RESEARCH.
1.) Contact a librarian before getting stuck sifting through
piles of online information.
2.) Consider that when in doubt, it's wiser to over-cite
sources than risk plagiarism.
3.) Use Google and Wikipedia at the beginning of a
research process, not the end.
4.) Don't think that the Web is your only source of
information.
5.) Understand the professor's expectations for citation
format.
6.) Understand why professors still assign research
projects.
 
BING
Microsoft’s search engine is the second most popular search engine
in the world, with 15.8% of the search market. But why should you
use Bing? Lifehacker has some great articles where they try to
convince themselves as much as anyone else why Bing is a serious
contender to Google. Plus points include:
•Bing’s video search is significantly better than Google’s, giving you a
grid of large thumbnails that you can click on to play or preview if
you hover over them.
•Bing often gives twice as many autocomplete suggestions than
Google does.
•Bing can predict when airfares are about to go up or down if you’re
searching for flights.
•Bing also has a feature where if you type linkfromdomain:[site
name}, it will highlight the best ranked outgoing links from that site,
helping you figure out which other sites your chosen site links to the
most.
Also note that Bing powers Yahoo’s search engine.
WOLFAMALPHA

As you may remember, WplframAlpha is an

alternative search search engine. As the site
https://www.wolframalpha.com/ states, “Wolfam
Alpha is more than a search engine. It gives you
access to the world’s facts and data and calculates
answers across a range of topics.”
