I am also grateful to my honorable teacher Mr.
Zeeshan who motivated me to work hard and teach me
techniques to complete this presentation.
Abstract
This project discovers and describes the various ways
of Sexual Harassment and Gender Discrimination
against women that are prevalent today in work places.
It also highlights the reasons behind these ongoing
practices, the type of people that carry them out, the
kind of workplaces where they are more rampant and
the people that are victimized by these. Another
important aspect that it covers will be on how to deal
with the problem and how it can be minimized at
work places.

Introduction
Sexual harassment is a serious problem for students at
all educational levels. Students in elementary and
secondary schools, as well as vocational schools,
programs, organizations, colleges and universities can
be victims of sexual harassment. It is different from
flirting, playing around, or other types of behavior that
you enjoy or welcome.
Definition
Sexual harassment in the workplace is an unwelcome
or unwanted attention of a sexual nature from
someone at a work place that causes discomfort,
humiliation, offence or distress, and / or interferes
with the job. This includes all such actions and
practices of a sexual nature by a person or a group
of  people directed at one or more workers
According to The Supreme Court definition, sexual
harassment is any unwelcome sexually determined
behavior, such as:
Physical contact.
A demand or request for sexual favors.
Sexually colored remarks.
Showing pornography.
Any other physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a
sexual nature.

Under the criminal provision, sexual harassment
against women in public spaces is now a criminal
offence. The law can attract a maximum penalty of
three years’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to
Rs500,000/.
Types Of Harassment
Quid pro quo: Quid pro quo is Latin for
"something for something" or "this for that." ...
sexual harassment occurs when a teacher offers you a
better grade or treats you better if you do something
sexual. It could also be a threat to lower your grade or
treat you worse than other students if you refuse to go
along with a request for a sexual favor.
Hostile environment: sexual harassment occurs
when unwanted sexual touching, comments, and/or
gestures are so bad or occur so often that it interferes
with your schoolwork, makes you feel uncomfortable
or unsafe at school, or prevents you from participating
in or benefiting from a school program or activity. This
type of harassment does not have to involve a threat or
promise of benefit in exchange for a sexual favor.
Sexual harassment includes
Unwanted pressure for dates.
Unwanted sexual teasing, jokes, remarks, or questions.
Whistling at someone.
Cat calls.
Sexual comments.
Turning work discussions to sexual topics.
Sexual stories.
Personal questions about social or sexual life.
Kissing sounds, howling, and smacking lips.
Neck massage.
Touching an employee's clothing, hair, or body.
Giving personal gifts.
Hugging, kissing.
Verbal & Non-Verbal
Verbal:
 Whistling at someone, cat calls.
 Making sexual comments about a person's body.
 Telling sexual jokes or stories.
 Making kissing sounds, howling, and smacking lips.

Non-Verbal:
 Looking a person up and down (Elevator eyes).
 Staring at someone.
 Blocking a person's path.
 Giving personal gifts.
 Following the person.
Physical Harassment
Physical harassment, in relation to sexual harassment,
is when a victim is touched in an inappropriate way.
Most importantly, the victim is touched against his or
her will. Sexual harassment claims of this nature can
come about for many reasons including: 
Hugging a person without permission.
Making bodily contact with another person.
Trying to kiss someone without asking.
Giving a massage around the neck or shoulders
Effects of Harassment
Common professional, academic, financial, and social
effects of sexual harassment:
Decreased work or school performance.
Loss of job or career.
Having to drop courses.
Becoming publicly sexualized.
 Defamation of character and reputation.
Loss of trust in environments.
Having to relocate to another city.
Loss of references.
Tips For Avoiding Harassment
Speaking Out.
Speak up at the time.
Keep records.
Set your own boundaries.
Be aware of situations and people who may harm you.
Trust your own instincts about possible danger.
Tell someone.
Create a Witness to the behavior.
Talk to a union.
Get a medical check-up.
Report sexual harassment to the appropriate person in
the organization.
Provide evidence.
Harassment in Pakistan
Sexual harassment, abuse and discrimination in
Pakistan’s workplaces, including universities, mostly
unreported and ignored by senior managers, a Dawn
survey of 300 women found.
In response to being asked whether women were made
to stay silent about workplace harassment, 61% said
their employers did not force them to keep quiet, but a
significant 35% were told to remain silent by their
colleagues and bosses.

Case Study
The ombudsperson against harassment of women at workplace Kashmala Tariq has
ordered the sacking of a college professor accused earlier this year of 
sexually harassing female students .
The incident surfaced in May at Islamabad’s Bahria College when a female student
lodged a complaint that her Biology professor Saadat Bashir had groped her twice
during a practical exam.
On Monday, the ombudsperson issued directions to remove Bashir from his post after
20 female and three male students confirmed the allegations.

According to the official statement, “the professor’s contract with the varsity is to be
terminated, and a fine of Rs200,000 is to be imposed on him.” Moreover, the batch’s
practical examination is also to be retaken.
The order further read, “the biology department’s head will be issued a disciplinary
warning letter, and Inspector-General police Islamabad must form an investigation
team for legal action [against the accused].”
Earlier on May 28, Bashir was sent by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary
Education (FBISE) to invigilate the exam ongoing for three days.
Shortly after, female students accused him of inappropriately touching and passing
salacious remarks at them. One of the students had claimed that the examiner
had groped almost 80 students and passed sleazy comments to them.

Conclusion
0revention is the best tool for the elimination of sexual
harassment. Thus a good training program will prepare
workers to recognize sexual advances and developing
strategies to deal with them. Hence training programs
might best be utilized as a catalyst and intervention in
removing harassment from the workplace. Finally it is not
the sole responsibility of the management but also the
employee’s responsibility to speak up and not allow them
to be victimized.
