Consumer Protection Act
• Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is an Act of the Parliament of
India enacted in 1986 to protect the interests of consumers in India
• It makes provision for the establishment of consumer councils and other
authorities for the settlement of consumers disputes
• The act was passed in Assembly in October 1986
• The act applies to whole of India except for Jammu and Kashmir
Any person who:
Who is a  Buys any goods for a consideration which has been paid or will be
paid.
Consumer?  Hires or avails any service for a consideration which has been paid
Sec. 2 (1) (d) or will be paid.
 It does not include a person who obtains goods for resale or any
commercial purpose
Complaint means any allegation in writing made by a complain­ant
