El empleo de esta ecuación es complicado por los siguientes factores:
1. El calor especifico y otras propiedades térmicas del metal sólido varían con
la temperatura, en especial si el material sufre un cambio de fase.
La composición del metal, la mejor fluidez se obtiene con metales que solidifican a
temperatura constante.
La viscosidad del metal, se tendrá una mayor fluidez si es menos viscoso el metal en
estado liquido.

SOLIDIFICACION Y ENFRIAMIENTO
La solidificación involucra la transformación del metal derretido al
nuevo estado sólido. El proceso difiere en función de si el metal es
un elemento puro o una aleación.

CONTRACCIÓN.
Durante la solidificación y enfriamiento ocurre un
fenómeno de contracción sobre el metal fundido, el
cual ocurre en tres etapas:
1. Contracción liquida durante el enfriamiento antes de la
solidificación. (0.5%)

2. Contracción durante el cambio de fase de liquida a
sólida, llamada contracción por solidificación.
3. Contracción térmica del fluido durante el enfriamiento
a temperatura ambiente.

La contracción por solidificación ocurre en casi todos los metales
porque la fase sólida tiene una densidad mayor que la liquida.
Cm depende material del molde, propiedades térmicas del metal que se funde y la
temperatura de vertido, obtenidos experimentalmente.
CONCLUSIONES IMPORTANTES
La mazarota representa el metal de desperdicio que se separa del proceso y se refunde
para hacer fundiciones subsecuentes. Es deseable que este volumen de metal en la
mazarota sea el mínimo. Como la forma geométrica de la mazarota se selecciona
normalmente para maximizar V/A, esto tiende a reducir el volumen de la mazarota lo
más posible.

MOLDEO AL VACIO
Utiliza un molde de arena que se mantiene unido por
medio de presión de vacío en lugar de emplear un
aglutinante químico.
Ventaja que tiene es que se recupera la arena, debido a
que no se emplean aglutinantes. Como no se mezcla
agua con arena el producto no tiene defectos
relacionados con la humedad.
La desventaja del proceso es relativamente lento y que no
se adapta con facilidad a la mecanización.

MOLDEO DE POLIESTIRENO EXPANDIDO
Usa un molde de arena compactada alrededor de un
modelo de espuma de poliuretano que se vaporiza
cuando el metal fundido se vierte en el molde.
Otras nombres que recibe es: proceso de espuma perdida,
proceso de patrón perdido, proceso de evaporación de
espuma y proceso de molde lleno.
Un ventaja significativa de este proceso es que el modelo
no necesita retirarse del molde, pero a su vez se requiere
un modelo nuevo para cada fundición.

FUNDICION POR REVESTIMIENTO
Se elabora un molde de cera y se recubre con un material
refractario para formar el molde, después del cual se
derrite la cera antes de verter el metal fundido.
Las ventajas que presenta son: es posible fundir piezas de
gran complejidad, se puede tener mucho control
dimensional con un buen acabado superficial, se puede
recuperar la cera utilizada.
La desventaja es que un proceso relativamente caro.

Se vierte metal fundido en un molde rotatorio para
