What is research?

 Research is the systematic and careful study of a specific

problem. The term research comes from the fact that you
have to ’search’ to get your information, whether it be
from different types of media e.g documentaries or
published books.
What are the different types of research?

 There are two types of research that are used in creative

media; Quantitative and Qualitative research. Both are
used for different reasons and to show different sides of
the point they are bringing to the table.
What is qualitative research?

Qualitative research is research that is compiled of different

people’s opinions, preferences and views instead of actual
facts. However, people often mistake them as fact.

Qualitative researchers have a more in depth understanding

of what people want and it allows their client to meet the
needs of the public.
Example of qualitive research

An example of Qualitive research would be a person telling you that a television

show is popular because all of their friends are watching it and everybody within
their social circle is watching it, meaning that they are lead to believe it is
popular and then will pass on the news that it is a popular show when it is not a
certified fact.
What is quantitative research?

Quantitative research is research that is compiled of

different statistics such as the number of times a song had
been streamed or bought or the amount of houses were
bought in a specific area.

Quantitative research is used to get specific figures for their

research which can help back the user’s opinion on whatever
they are using it for.
Example of quantitative research

 A example of quantitative research would be finding out of a television show

is popular or not from a film review website, as they will often hold accurate
information as to how many viewers the series gets on average straight from
the sources themselves. Hard data is often the most valuable source of
information, especially for research.
Why do we carry out research?

We carry out research so that when we create our products

we have factual and or accurate information so that we do
not misunderstand or make up any facts or figures that may
not be true.
It is always good to research before creating a project as we
need to make sure that our products are well planned out
before we begin the creative process.
Conclusion

 In conclusion, the creative media industry need to

research in order for their work to come out successful.
Without research, quantitative or qualative, our creations
would not work as we do not have the facts or accurate
thoughts that are provided to us.
