TECHNOLOGY MAPPING FOR PROPOSED 5G USER CASES IN KUALA TERENGGANU
SYSTEM
MODELLING
Description
• 3.5GHz (C-band) range of 3.3GHz – 4.2GHz (strong device ecosystem – 56 devices supporting C-
band N77 and N78)
• Synchronization in Time Division Duplex (TDD) networks which uses a single frequency band for
both transmission and reception.
SPECTRUM
• Massive MIMO 64T64R Base Station Configuration
• 2T4R Device Configuration
• 100MHz Bandwidth
• ~5.8Gbps 5G Downlink Peak Cell Capacity
• Non-Stand-Alone (NSA) networks in which 5G works in tandem with the L1800 4G network.
INFRASTRUCTURE
• Co-deployment D-RAN mode where the radio and processing function are in the same location.
• Outdoor : combination of existing site with a new set of 5G antenna.
RADIO SITE
• Indoor : Digital Indoor Solution (DIS) provides better link budget for improved coverage and
REQUIREMENT
flexible capacity expansion to support 5G data explosion.
• Structure : Ground-Based Tower (GBT), Rooftop and Special Structure.
• Dimension & Loading : require upgrades in order to handle heavier antennas (massive MIMO) and
SITE ACQUISITION cabinet that consists of additional mobile technologies and higher power consumption. GBT (40-
AND ENGINEERING 50% of deployment with capability for 5G is 70%); Rooftop (30-35% of deployment with capability
for 5G is 20%); Special Structure (20-25% of deployment with capability for 5G is 10%).
• Power : power-supplying equipment at existing sites will require substantial upgrades.
D-RAN FRONTHAUL NETWORK
Beamforming and
advanced antenna array
architecture also helps
reduce co-cell
interference. This new
architecture design
increases bandwidth,
provides a more focused
energy, reduces
interference and
provides a capacity lift
via small cells.
Digital Indoor Solution (DIS)

LampSite is an industry-leading in-depth

radio coverage solution that supports indoor
multimode deployment in large- to medium-
sized sites such as office buildings, venues,
and transportation hubs and semi-enclosed
sports stadiums.

A LampSite base station consists of a

baseband unit (BBU), Pico Remote Radio Unit
(pRRU), and RemoteHUB(rHUB).
SYSTEM
PERFORMANCE
In order to deliver these requirements, it is expected that 5G will support:

•Traffic capacity : 10Mbps per square metre in hotspot areas.

•Data transfer rates : up to 1Gbps.

•Latency for user experienced data exchange : 1ms.

•Connection density : up to 1 million connections per square kilometre.

•High mobility : up to 10km/hour.

CONCLUSION

Even though 5G is still premature in order us to identify the cost of it services, from the National 5G Task Force
Report we believe that 5G will drive the economic growth of the country and to improve quality of life of the Rakyat.

There will be a lot of work to be done and co-operation is much needed from all the stakeholders. The 5G
Demonstration Projects aims in facilitating, developing and fostering the potential development of 5G use cases in
real-time and subsequently, drive the growth of the 5G ecosystem in the country. It is also aims to create awareness
and stimulate demand for the use of 5G technology.

By putting consideration of environmental and financial aspects; fiber will be used as a fundamental infrastructure
and will be offered to Telcos as a shared facilities and repurpose existing 4G infrastructure. Meanwhile, Cloud
Computing could help maximize existing infrastructure which facilitate data processing and analysis. Selected C-
Band is currently used by MEASAT and deployment of the 5G Base Station adjacent to the incumbent receiver will
generate interference in the incumbent’s receiver system. Mitigation techniques will be implied to either 5G Base
Stations or the FSS system to suppress interference in the FSS receiver.
