UNIT VI PARAGRAPH WRITING & LETTER

WRITING

Elements of Paragraph Writing:

. 1. Unity.
2. Order.
3.Variety.
4. Length.
5. Topic Sentence.
6. Body of the Paragraph.
7.Conclusion.
A) Unity: Every paragraph starts with topic
sentence. All sentences in the paragraph
.
should be framed to deal with that topic or
main idea. The theme of the paragraph is
generally expressed in first sentence of the
paragraph.
B) Order: All the sentences in the paragraph
should be arranged in a proper sequence and
logical manner.
C) Variety: Variety is considered as the soul of a
good paragraph. It means that the paragraph
.
should contain all types of small and big
sentences and avoid the repetitive words in
them. Variety of sentences makes a paragraph look
good and well framed.
D) Length: There is no set pattern of the length
of the paragraph but every paragraph rightly
concludes the theme or main idea of the paragraph.
E) The Topic Sentence: The very first
sentence should be able to convey the
theme of the paragraph.
F) Body of the paragraph: It should have
been developed with proper cohesiveness or
connectivity of ideas or sentences.
G) Conclusion: It summarizes the previous
discussed ideas and introduces or prepares
further ideas of the next paragraph.
Paraphrasing and Plagiarism: Paraphrasing is
rewriting or restating the original text in your
own words especially to achieve greater
clarity. (Writing text in your own sentences)
Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone
else's work or ideas and passing them off as
one's own. It is academic theft and ethically
wrong. ( Use quotation marks to avoid it and
give credit to the author who owns it.)
