INTRODUCTION
• Zomato is an Indian restaurant
aggregator and food delivery start up
founded by Deepinder Goyal and
Pankaj Chaddah.
•  Started In- July 2008
• Zomato was founded as Foodiebay in
2008
• Renamed as Zomato in 2010
•  Zomato provides information, menus
and user-reviews of restaurants, and
also has food delivery options from
partner restaurants in select cities.
• Zomato is also entering into grocery
delivery amid the Covid-19 outbreak. Group 11 2

• Operates in 23+ countries including India, Dubai, UK,


Brazil, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Poland and New
Zealand.
• However, with on paper companies, Zomato's presence
has crossed to over 40 countries in the world.
• In 2011, Zomato started its operations in various cities
like Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, etc. and also launched
applications for cellular devices.
• Mission is to ensure nobody has a bad meal They do

Some interesting trends were noticed in Swiggy’s yearly
report on India’s food ordering habits

• India is the third largest market for online food delivery


with a market volume of over 9200 mn US Dollars

• Indians order 95 biryanis per minute which means


around 1.6 biryani per second

• Over 35000 varieties & combos of Biryanis ranging from


Rs19 to Rs 1500 are available for ordering on various
food delivery platforms

• Apart from this, desserts and comfort foods are also


quite popular on these platforms

• In September 2019, Swiggy launched an online Pick ‘n’ drop
service named as Swiggy GO

• Swiggy Go can be used to pick up and drop off laundry, get


forgotten keys, send lunch boxes from one place to another

• The National Restaurant Association of India


(NRAI) has refused to accept a modified version
of Zomato’s Gold membership plan.
• Number of restaurants left Gold as part of
#Logout.
• On August 19, NRAI has made it clear that it
wants deep discounting to end.
• They Chalked out 10 points of improvement in
the email being sent by the founder Mr.
Deepinder Goyal, and asked for changes in them.
• Though Zomato Gold has 1 million subscribers,
but for investors it's not a feast.

• On 17 August 2019, more than 1,200 restaurants logged off from Zomato
•  In Pune alone, more than 450 restaurants stopped serving to Zomato Gold
• 2500 Restaurants decides to exit Zomato Gold
• The National Restaurant Association of India started the movement asking
restaurateurs to #Logout from all these discounting apps
