DEFINITION OF SENTENCE
 A group of related words which has subject,

verb, object and a complete meaning.

 A group of words which has a sense is called

sentence.

Ex:
 He eats steak. (Correct)
 He eats Television. (Incorrect)

SENTENCE ACCORDING
MEANING:
 Declarative sentence:

 Interrogative sentence:

 Exclamatory sentence:

 Imperative sentence:

 Optative sentence:

DECLARATIVE SENTENCE:

 It begins with a capital letter and ends with a period

 She can speak English language fluently.


 Interrogative sentence asks a question. It begins with
a capital letter and ends with a question mark.
 E.g.
 What do you do?
Have you ever used WIFI?

EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE:

 Shows strong or sudden feelings or emotions. It begins


with a capital letter and ends with an exclamation mark.
 E.g.
 What a powerful computer!
What a nice class!

 Imperative sentence: shows an order, instruction,

direction or request. It begins with a capital letter and


ends either with a period or an exclamation mark.
 E.g.
 Come in.
Don’t smoke!

OPTATIVE SENTENCE:

 Optative sentence expresses a wish, prayer, curse …


etc.
 E.g.
 May you live long!
May Allah help you!

SENTENCE ACCORDING
STRUCTURE:
 There are four types of sentences in this category:

 Simple sentence

 Compound sentence

 Complex sentence

 Compound-complex sentence

SIMPLE NAD COMPOUND SENTENCES:
It expresses one main idea. Thus it only has one main
clause which may have word or phrase modifiers
(adjectives or adverbs or prepositional phrase)

Ex: The holy Quran gives guidance for success in both


worlds.
Compound sentence is consist of two or more
independent clauses (or simple sentences) joined by
coordinating conjunctions like "and," "but," and "or":
 E.g.
 Canada is a rich country.(Simple sentence)
Still, it has many poor people. (Simple sentence)
 Canada is a rich country, but still it has many poor
people. (Compound sentence)

COMPLEX SENTENCE
 A sentence which has one main and one or more than one

subordinating clauses.

 E.g. This is the boy, who can speak Dari.

 Compound complex sentences:

 Sentences which consist of two or more than two main

clause, and one subordinate clause.

 Ex. Allah created the whole universe and the earth is one of

those on which the human is living

 Many men and women are being trained on their jobs, and

some of them later study at colleges where they improve


their skills.
